I have gotten two emails in the past two hours with the following:

"Hello,

We have recently noticed suspicious activity on your account.

As a preventative measure, we have reset your password for your account with the username: [name]"

I don't even ever remember making an account. :P What is a Uplay account used for? Could one have been automatically made when I bought something on Steam? If I blow it off, and it's not a scam, could I lose the ability to play certain games?

To play Ubisoft games, and no, Steam plays them without a Uplay account. But you may have made one in the past for a free game or two

Thank you.

Regardless even if it's legit, I think I'll just sit on it, not take any chances.
And sorry about asking something like this in a DRM free site, but the people in here are the only gamers I know.
It could very well be legit. With the rise in Siege's popularity there has been more attempts to hack accounts
Uplay is Ubisoft's gaming platform. Games on Steam that require Uplay will come with the Uplay client and will not work without an Ubisoft account. Those games will be automatically redeemed to your Ubisoft account on first run. You will need access to this account in order to play your games.

Of course, a Uplay account doesn't magically create itself. ^;)
Do you have a history of demonic possession in your family? A man temporarily possessed by a demon may barbecue cats, paint pentagrams with pigeon blood on neighbours' driveways or, in extreme cases, open a Uplay account in his name with his email address.

Linko's answer is unfortunately incorrect.

As ArachnosX said, some Ubisoft games will require a Uplay account even if you bought them through steam. Starting one of those in the Steam client will prompt you to log into your Uplay account as well in order for them to run.

So holding on to the Uplay account is the right thing to do.

Or Origin... don't know what's worse.
It's a scam - don't reply to it. The scammers simply wants your info or credit card info. Just ignore it.

Rockstar, rockstar is worse, and epic. By comparison to those two Ubisoft really isn't all that bad
Nice necro Batman!
