Mother by Danzig is much better than the entire game. :P
Up to 75 games now.

Keep posting solutions to disable huds in games and I'll keep adding them to the wiki.

hudfreegamer: Check the wiki. The solution is already there.

IronArcturus: Is there a solution for a partial-hud? Maybe where it just shows ammo amount instead the curvy lines all over?
I've made a new mod that removes the curvy lines. You can get it here:

http://ge.tt/6Nz9GnD2/v/0

Extract it into your Fear2 installation directory and run the game.

Keep in mind, it's not perfect. It removes some other elements in game and from the menu screen.

But, it gets rid of the curvy lines and keeps the health bars, armor bars, ammo, and icons (like health, ammo, grenade)

Let me know if you want a version that:
A. removes everything except for the ammo and grenade count (and I think health pack count). (no icons for ammo, grenade, or health and no health or armor bars)

B. removes everything except health bar, armor bar, ammo & grenade count, (no icons for ammo, grenade, and health)
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, I don't see the rest of the Doom/Quake engine games on there.

Heretic/Hexen/Strife all ran on the Doom engine and the HUD can be disabled in the same way as Doom. Hexen 2 ran on the Quake engine and same thing. Heretic 2 ran on the Quake 2 engine, but I'm not sure if the HUD could be disabled in that one, I'd have to check.

If you think it would be redundant to give them their own page, you could at least make a note of them on the Doom/Quake game pages, respectively.

Sounds pretty cool!

Also, I was playing the "Reborn" expansion from FEAR 2, and noticed the secondary HUD was an improvement over the original FEAR 2 HUD. It's the HUD where Fettel uses mind control on Foxtrot 813. The HUD was very minimalistic and it was a lot better than the first one. Would it be possible to use that HUD in the original FEAR 2?

Short answer, no. The SDK for Fear 2 was never released. It's impossible to modify any game assets without it.

My mod and the other no hud mod both use something called the Helix Mod. http://helixmod.blogspot.com/ It doesn't change the game in any way. All the changes are happening at the directx9 level just before shaders are rendered.

The Helix Mod currently allows for a few things:
1. Disabling a shader (In this case, the curvy lines or other parts of the hud)
2. Toggle shaders on/off with a key press. I created a more complete Toggle Hud mod for Fear 2 which I uploaded to the Hud Free Wiki that does that. It's the second one on the page. http://hudfreegaming.wikia.com/wiki/F.E.A.R._2
3. Lets users toggle shaders on/off when holding down a key (same mod as #2, just change a line in the DX9settings.ini file under [KEY1] from Type = 1 to Type = 2
4. Lets users modify 3d display options like convergence (I don't know much about that, I don't have a 3d display or glasses).

Modifying shader code requires learning shader assembly code, which is difficult to understand. I got a lot of help to figure it out.
Betrayer also has native support for HUD free gaming. Menu options allow for disabling any combination of HUD elements.

Can you take in game screenshots without the hud in color and black and white?

GOG's file upload is really small, so I'll try this:

Can you verify and post screenshots from each game without the hud here? Then I can add those games to the wiki.

Thanks. Added Betrayer to the wiki.

In Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines it's possible to disable the HUD with a console command. Console has to be enabled and the command (strangely not listed on the wiki page there) is draw_hud 0. Leaves you with contextual activation buttons and nothing else, it seems.
(Note though, my game/mouse always gets stuck after using the console so I also have to use the command chareditor after every other command which puts me on the skill screen where the mouse is usable again. This seems to be a common occurrence.)

with HUD
without HUD

According to the last post in this thread one can also bind these commands to keys by editing a config file - to avoid the console nonsense - but I haven't tried that myself. (The v_hidegui command mentioned there doesn't seem to be doing anything for me.)
Added Heretic, Heretic 2, Hexen, Hexen II, and Strife.

Also added Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.
Any more solutions?
Bump, and I realised I never posted those screenshots you asked for, so here's 2 for Hexen, 2 for Heretic, and 3 for Hexen II, if you still want them.

I also just realised the resolution might be a little overkill on those.
