What'up, gang? So, I was checking my old lists that I use to make about some of my favorite features on my favorite games, and a specific one has gotten me in deep thinking, lately: Merchants:

Now, my favorite type of videogame merchants, are not those that take part in the story, like the Happy Mask Salesman from Majora's Mask, or the Duke from Resident Evil: Village.

It is, in fact, those that are covered in Mysteries.

They can be found around the entire gaming map (how do they do that!?), Their intentions or afiliations are usually unknow (even though they help you, it doesn't necessarily mean that thye like you, they just like your cash), and overall, they are character with cool visuals and drip, and just make you wonder who are they, how to they travel faster than you, and how do they alwyas know specifically where to be for you to find then.

Afer a little thinking, I ended up selecting these 3 as my favorites of this category:

The "Dark Realm-guy" (Onimusha series)

The Merchant (Resident Evil 4)

The Trapper (Red Dead Redemption 2)

Do you know any other mysterious merchants that fits this specific caregory?? Be sure to drop then below!

Creeper and Mudcrab Merchants (Morrrowind)?
Kecleon from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. A species of unassuming merchants that abruptly appear in the depths of dangerous dungeons that took some time to descend into to just to set up shop and sell their wears. The brethren of the merchant appear in swarms in the depths of any cave if the player dares steal from them. They are all very high level and will take out an unprepared player, so could easily solve the problems threatening the fate of the world that the player struggles to solve, but instead they cast a blind eye to them and just sell the player their goods.

AB2012: Creeper and Mudcrab Merchants (Morrrowind)?
Mudcrab came first to my mind too! Though it doesn't travel or speak, of course. I don't know Creeper.

As a second, I can think of a traveling peddler (Bredo Bento) in Drakensang, whom you see in three different local maps of the game.

I had a feeling that Pokemon probably had a Merchant like this, at some point.Would never had guessed that the merchant would be a pokemon itself, though. lol

Does he stand out from the rest of the merchants from the game? Like, visually, or in the type of weapons\gear that he sells?

Muramasa from the Ninja Gaiden games.
burgerpants.

I think they were talked about a lot during the release of the game.
But when I played through the game, it immediately struck a chord.
Who can't relate to their crappy 9 to 5 job and ironic distain for life?
I think at one-point burgerpants isn't even at the counter?
It gets out of hand in the best way possible. Handled in the most Undertale of ways.

Lots of fun! And certainly, a memorable merchant.

Wait, isn't Muramasa actually part of the story, helping Ryu in combat a few times?

He sounds cool! I really need to play Undertale, some day. Heard wonders about it, but never found the time to actually put it in top of my list.

Xenon the Antiquarian comes to mind.

Probably the most mysterious or better, most elusive(?) merchant/vendor, since you could only encounter him/shop at his place if you had been a good boy and purchased and installed the 'Black Emporium' additional content, alongside the Dragon Age II base game.

Went digging about him on the Wikies, he seems to be right on the money! If he doesn't interfere on the main story, and his methods/motivations are a mistery, he could definitely join the list.

Mudcrab isn't a name. It is an actual mudcrab. It can talk, though, as I've searched it. All merchants in Morrowind have limited money and you need to wait for 24h (in-game) for them to replenish their sum. Mudcrad is the richest merchant, having 10.000 gold, so you can sell to it your more expensive, unwanted, gear.

Bredo Bento is a traveling merchant in Drakensang, and seems to appear, before or after you, in 3 different local maps of the game. He isn't anything special though (I thought he would be).
PC only or consoles too? Didnt Zelda have a few?
The trader from Darkwood could fit.

Yeah, that's true. It's pretty clear that he is selling him items and helping with blacksmithing to help him save the world. No mysterious intentions there. But he does appear throughout the entire game, so that part checks out.

Oh, I see. Still, a mudcrab as a merchant is a pretty fun design choice, if not a creative way to not needing to create a unique design for a character, heh.

As for Bento, yeah, if he doesn't present any questions about who he is or his motives, he might just be a regular vendor. Thanks for mentioning him, though!

PC or consoles, whatever works for you.
As for Zelda, the main one would be the Happy Mask Salesman. But like I said in the desciption, the fact that he interacts with the main character in a supporting character role took him out of the list for me. I am after the ones that do not take any part in the main story.
