As for "dwarf fortress-likes" I also highly recommend Gnomoria.

There is also Craft the World, though its not really that complex and more akin to a mobile game.

I also think that Terraria partially fits the bill. It does give players quite a lot of power over directing how to structure your "village" however.

Rimworld (which is very akin to Prison Architect) and Prison Architect itself are also extremly close regarding a Dwarf Fortress like experience. I consider Prison Architect to be closer to Dwarf Fortress than Rimworld though but I guess it depends on your own experiences and perspectives with these games.

When it comes to the Dwarf Fortress adventure mode, I think next to its complexity is Project Zomboid.

Yep, germans are very direct with their self-references.

I'm going to have to single this out. I've played Blockhood. It sucks.

Maxvorstadt: Yeah, I thought something like this. Or is there another one, that english/american people use in such cases?
Smartypants is the English equivalent of "Klugscheißer" / "Besserwisser".

"Smartass" is also possible, or "wise guy", or "gobshite" or "wise ass", or "smart alec(k)"...choose your favorite.

Okay, then I pick smartass. Hm, gobshite sounds interesting, where does it come from? And does smart alec have something to do with Alec Guiness?

I believe gobshite originates in Ireland.
And "smart alec" seems to have been an actual person (not Sir Alec Guinness):

ONI looks pretty good yes. Hoping to check it out someday as a huge fan on the developer in general.

Dwarf Fortress is excellent, but I don't know if I'll ever try it again. It just runs too poorly, and the developer, instead of optimizing it, appears to do the opposite by adding more complexity to it. At this rate I should wait for the first commercially viable quantum computing cpu to become available before I check it out again. Last time I tried to do adventure mode, only to find that frames per second turns into seconds per frame when trying to enter a town :\

When next I feel I have the time for something like this, I think I'll rather check out the oft mentioned Rimworld.
