We get a lot of complains on these forums, but for once I wanted to tell a tale of a job well done. All it takes for a success story is developer interest and involvement.

Since the release of Hellish Quart on GOG, its developer has push each and every minor update not only to Galaxy, but also to offline installers. I am not a Galaxy user, so I really really appreciate the last part.

I have not felt in any way disadvantaged by having the game on GOG compared to other stores. Updates have been on time and consistent. Offline installers were always updated as well. Kudos to everyone involved.

Which shows you such a thing IS possible, but usually it depends on the devs if they want to spend their time or automate enough so they don't when publishing their games to GOG is involved.

Some simply abandon their games here, some simply don't care enough to invest time in anything besides... the hot and humid air store :P.

Also, Songs of Styx and Stellar Tactics have updated quite a bit recently and Rings of Saturn always updates at an incredible pace. Low Magic Age also updates pretty regularly.

Lumencraft, Death Thrash and Dread Templar will also update semi-regularly (could just be the pace of their updates).

Astrox Imperium, Stoneshard, Project Zomboid, Space Haven will also update occasionally.

Sacred Fire has just updated, but its uncommon.

I know that black Skylands, Lords and Villeins, Nova Drift, Odd Realm, Universe Sandbox and Minotaur have updated at least a couple of times.

That's for the games in development. There are also games technically "not in development" that update at a dizzying pace (No Man's Sky would be a front contender on that list).

Not a single post from the developer on gog.
Several complaints of being 1-2 updates behind steam.

The devs are not on the GOG forums, that's true. But I don't view it as much of a problem.

As far as those complaints go, I'm sure "being behind" meant by a couple of days or so. I can't remember anything outright noticeable, but then again I'm not the kind of person that minds reasonable delays, especially when it comes to offline installers. Even so, the last few updates were released on the same day based on the game's internal changelog.

No problem with a little delay, as long as the update actually arrives.

Small teams do have too much on their hands to go spending hours replying to the whin... er, comments of people in every forum of every store where they are trying to sell their games.

I'm waiting for Hellish Quart to leave "in-development" stage. Frequent updates is a good sign, and hope the dev will continue to do this once the game gets closer to completion. I don't want to another situation like Supraland, where the dev abandoned GOG due to to disappointing sales.

While I would normally agree with you and hardly ever buy any in-dev titles anyway... in this particular case the game is already quite polished and very fun to play. I feel like I've already got my money's worth and then some, but I admit I'm a big fan of fighting games of all sorts.

I happen to be a fan of fighting games as well. A game akin to Bushdio Blade is a plus too.

Sadly, past devs/pubs doing GOG dirty has made me wary with newly released titles, let alone in-dev.

Really appreciate this sort of feedback. I had been curious about this game. I am still boycotting GOG in my own way due to what could be deemed the "DRM creep" onto the store, but I love to see developers actually putting in effort towards this store. I do however agree with comments that developer forum activity, and, more importantly, the released version, seems to tell the tale the best. When is it supposed to be out of in-dev? Because if this positive behavior continues, it may become a must-have.

Also, just noticed on the store page "This game only has local multiplayer." Now I am ESPECIALLY intrigued :) As, many games seem to only focus on online, and local is what I would view as the most desirable (and DRM-free) option.

No clue. There's a dev plan accessible in the game's menu that outlines the general direction and I think it's still pretty far from where the devs wants it to be... that being said, it's still tons of fun as it is now, although it does indeed lack some polish here and there. I bought it in April this year and so far saw the addition of HEMA gear, two new fighters and a lot of background music tracks, as well as several new fighting arenas.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! Will keep all of this in mind.
