We have a big surprise for the owners of the retro-style FPS/adventure game set in an eerie crystalpunk underground world. Today, Hedon Bloodrite update goes live, giving all
the owners of Hedon access to a new game along with dangerous monsters and huge levels.

If you want to start your adventure with the game from Zan studio right now, check out the Hedon Demo that is up for grabs on GOG.COM!

I'm confused. Is it an update or a new game?

From what I understood, an update as big as a full game.

It's essentially a new episode for Hedon, similar to how old games like Duke Nukem 3D or Doom would be split up into different episodes. Just install the game and it should be version 2.0.0.1, which allows you to access either of the episodes from the single-player menu.

Also, the entire game (including the first episode) was ported to a new version fo the engine (I think) and the new episode was developed with lots of new stuff like new assets (enemies and weapons etc.), new gameplay features (some RPG mechanics, I think) and whatever else the new engine allowed for.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that Zan added "Bearzerker mode" to the game some time after releasing the first episode. This is a new game mode wherein you play through the single-player campaign with a bunch of new melee-only weapons instead of your normal ranged arsenal and you could find friendly NPCs to follow you around like an adventuring party. Honestly a very different and fun new way of playing the first episode, well worth another playthrough. And the new Bloodrite episode already offers the option of playing Bearzerker mode out-of-the-box, so that's even more content in the new Hedon package.

I really liked the previous version, except the awful final boss (I heard it has been rebalanced though, that's good).
I will definitely get this down the line, when finances aren't so tight; I can only respect such a dedicated developer, being a "one man army" myself. I know the struggle of having to do everything (or almost everything) by yourself without giving up on your passions, so... go on, Zan!

Hedon is a Doom Engine (id Tech 1) game, so it'll be the equivalent of starting Doom's E2 "The Shores of Hell" after E1 "Knee-Deep In The Dead".

If you own the previous version on GOG, the new one should already be in your account. :)
Uh, nice. Thanks for the free update, Zan. :)

Unfortunately, I do not. A friend made me play this one on his computer more than a year ago.

Are you sure? Better check again, among your PMs, just in case. ;)
At realease, I can't remember, if I played the shareware version or the Steam demo, but I was stuck after 2 minutes

I don't even know there's a game called Hedon. From the look of it people are loving it. Time to dip in pool then.

Thanks for the explanation!
