Emob78: I've got a bad back and some mild sciatic badness, but when I sit for too long playing games I get up and either do exercises or go mow the yard...
Might I suggest getting a standing desk and standing while playing at least some of the time? I find this to do really well for me and really like my switch to standing a good portion of my computer time.
Partially deaf here. I either have to use headphones to understand anything or bank on subtitles. Otherwise I just play without sound.

nightcraw1er.488: Ugh, don't ask. Am looking at the terminal 40, so more or less.everything. Wrists, back, mostly. I switch hands, use m*k and controller on and off, bit it never goes away. Also pain behind right eye. Oh, and I forget things a lot, not sure if I mentioned that :o)

drealmer7: Sounds like both of you could use some cannabis relief for your soreness. It does wonders, really.
It makes games, ahem, more fun too! ^_^

I find the pills the doctor gives you for these problems can be better. :P
Borderline personality disorder often affects my concentration when I'm not doing so well, and I have suspected MS as well which causes my muscles to do weird shit, so it sometimes feels like I'm being tapped on the shoulder or my leg, which can be terribly distracting (even if it isn't MS as my doctor is guessing, it's still irritating as fuck).
Occasionally lower back pain or discomfort, but so far that has been usually fixable (stretching the back and some exercise). Also, once I started using office chairs with a free rocking mode, that also seems to prevent those problems, as I move around my upper body quite a bit while sitting in such a chair.

Earlier, years ago, I had some quite bad neck and shoulder pains if I had sat in front of a computer for a few hours. That seemed to be related to certain fixed chair I mostly used back then, I think I kept my shoulders tensioned when sitting on it, ie. the arm rests were too high or something, with no way to adjust them.

Recent years, my eye sight has worsened somewhat, making small text harder to read without glasses. I sometimes wonder how on earth many games have so small text that it is practically unreadable, but a couple of things probably attribute to that too:

- I usually try to run those old games like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex in high resolutions, which cause all the text to shrink as well. I think those games were designed to be played in 640x480, 800x600 or at max 1024x768, and that's where the font size is readable.

- I quite often play on laptops, which may have small 14" screens and such. No wonder then everything looks smaller.

But still, I realize that nowadays I many times have difficulties reading also fine print on products for their ingredients etc. (without glasses). Those damn black letters on a dark red background, how the heck anyone can read that...?

Oddly, I've never had any wrist problems in the mouse hand or anything, maybe I am not that susceptible to it.

darthspudius: I have hand and neck problems that cause me great pain in my arms with certain control types. I actually lost movement in my thumb a few days ago. Also my bad back becomes a distraction.

It sounds like they're doing wonders for helping you improve! *sarcasm*

They just dull the senses and try and behave as if the problem doesn't exist, they don't actually help address the problem, in my opinion.

I tried that a couple of years ago at work (we have office desks which raise and descent with a push of a button), both because of my lower back problems back then, and the articles suggesting how bad sitting is for you.

That didn't really work for me, somehow standing up while using the computer was very distracting to me. I couldn't really concentrate on what I was doing on the computer, if I was standing up. Not sure why, it just felt I had to concentrate on standing.

So I went back to sitting, especially as I learned about the free rocking mode of my office chair, which for the most part took away my lower back pains.

It has taken me discipline to keep it up and to have started it at all. The habit is SO ingrained to be sitting, it definitely takes some mental focus to do it. Just like most bad habits, it takes mind over matter sheer willpower and desire to do so to overcome them. Glad you have found a way to relieve your back pain some though, certainly.

Sounds like video games ruined your life. Good thing you've got two more lives.
