Playing a game with multiple saves and scenarios and saved over the wrong one? I have and I am very cautious when saving now as it's a real pain and actually deleted a save in FNV and it crashed which was a massive pain:)

Oh God, yes. This is one of my worst fears. I did this in my end game save on Sleeping Dogs. Really chapped my ass.

far as I remember you cant even name saves in FNV etc, making it doubly problematic

Sounds about right. I was like... wait... no no no no! Cause I had deleted an end game save with a start of game save. Now I try to use profile managers.

Yes :-( Now I copy saves to elsewhere if I am keen on keeping them.

Really? I learn from my mistakes as that's the best teacher for lessons on (mistakes).Most would say that is the hard way to learn:)

When it comes to Fallout 3, I remember I ended up making a new save everytime. By the time I stopped playing Fallout 3, i was at 750 saves. The only game for which I've done that. I usually have as many saves as I can see when I open the save/load screen, and I just loop through them, always overwriting the oldest one.

Ah, Fallout... it's good to see that even after the abysmal 3D transition, some things just never change.

My worst save game experience was with Fallout 2 back in the day. After playing for 10 hours or so with 3 alternating save slots, the game crashed shortly after the car disappeared (trunk only bug). Turned out that all 3 save files were corrupted, even though being hours apart and I successfully loaded them back before the crash.

Many patches came and went since, but they can't convince me to touch that bloody car ever again.

I suffer from frequent bouts of insomnia so I will try to get rid of it by gaming, and since usually I am so tired its not even funny, I will make the mistake of saving over games. happens alot.

Not really... I've never had a hard drive that was so small that I had to overwrite old saves.

Some games offer only a limited number of save slots though. I think e.g. Deus Ex: IW does, which I am playing now (on the last levet though), so I just rotate the saves using all the save slots.

Which reminds me that I need to write something related to this to the "your unpopular opinions about games"...
