amok: let me know what you think. I adore that game, perfect for all those small times between when you are at a bit of a loose end. And it is DRM free anyway on Desura, so with a backup you are fine.

fronzelneekburm: I'll tell you what I think: Thanks so much for giving me that final nudge in the right direction! Played the game for about an hour and it's fucking awesome! Huge fun, I can't wait to recommend it to all my friends. :)
it is a very deceptive game, it is much more fun than it looks like it should be. :)

DCT: Funny enough the same thing was said when Linden Labs sold Desura to their current owner.
avatar
LeonardoCornejo: And correct me if I am wrong, but Linden Labs bought it too right? Desrua might be cursed.
yes Liden Labs bought Desura back in 2013 and sold it to Bad Juju in 2014 and six months later Bad Juju files for bankruptcy. So you may be right, but I think it's more of a case of Desura just not getting a strong enough hold in the marketplace or not being able to stay competitive since for a long time they were the store where indies who couldn't get accepted by Valve back when Steam was still heavily curated could go and sell their games without having to make a website, find a way to handle orders, distribute the games, get updates out to customers, try to get the game name out there and stir up possible interest, ect.

But now that Steam is not really curated and even if you can't by some reason or another get on Steam directly you could always go Greenlight. Plus with Steam having opened up to "early access titles" which also was a market held by Desura for a long time as was Linux which two of the lager stores GOG and Steam suppourt. It kinda made Desura a bit more pointless as a store for most devs since why spend your time releasing on Desura to such a small customer base and dealing with the hassles of their system, I heard a few devs complain about how backwards things can be on Desura when it comes to putting the games up for sale and patch distribution. When Steam and it's massive customer base and easier system has become easier to get your stuff on?

I'm honestly surprised Desura lasted as long as it did, on the plus side they outlasted Impulse, Gametap, Direct 2 drive and Games for Windows Live.

I'm honestly wondering who maybe the next Store to possibly close up shop? Gamersgate, Greenman, Playism?

Maybe Shiny Loot, they don't look that big, or DotEmu.

Yeah I wouldn't be too shocked to see DotEmu closing their shop but the company seems to be getting by releasing titles like Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug X, Double Dragon Trilogy as well as doing the compatibility work like they did on Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for Square-Enix.

DotEmu is primarily not a shop, but developer / distributor. The DotEmu shop is minor source of income for them. But having it is some income, and it is an outwards face.

Oh I thought it was the other way around. They started as a digital store and then went as a dev/distributor. Guess I am wrong then. Certain explains why they aren't too concern with growing their store.

LeonardoCornejo: I am more in the "Anything goes as long as no one gets hurt for real" Line of thought, but I tend to agree some things are rather tasteless when you take the role of the perpetrator. Rape is one of those things,
I am quite neutral to Hatred as a legit release.

But what rubs me the wrong way is that it seems to be hailed, or given "a thumb up" - and only one, because "I stick up the other unto ass of the establishment!"

And this quite as uncritically as some teenage fan that goes to scream in One Direction concert.

Have you perso seen any praise to this game because the game play is great and innovative; writing is compelling; game engine rocks?

To highlight my point: is anyone saying Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment are great games just because they are "high fantasy RGPs"?
*sigh* Not only the option to hide games in the shelf but also to hide whole threads would be very useful....

If you don't want to see a thread, the least you could do is TO NOT BUMP IT.

Here's how to hide threads.
About two thirds of this thread would have been avoided if GOG had simply released Hatred. Just saying.

Possibly even less. Particularly after the reviews, I'd rather assume a "I hate GOG because they released Hatred" thread would have a low one digit page count. Which gives us a rather clear indication where the outrage culture is at.

Hatred's down to position 282 in Steam's Charts this morning. Sales are probably more than adequate thanks to the controversy, yet interest is waning very, very quickly.

I'm playing through it. It's actually pretty fun. Just about what I expected. It does have some bugs but considering how recently it was released I'm not that bothered by them. It offers a different experience to games like Nation Red that are more arcade based and it utilizes the Unreal Engine 4 fairly well for the environment destruction bits and the way it scripts the sidequests.

It's not GOTY but it's definitely not bad at all so far. The checkpoint/respawn system is actually brilliantly designed once I figured out how it actually works. :P

Perhaps. Outrage made this game relevant to begin with though, so who knows.
Nail'd it!
