Well, fuck, looks like Desura has gone belly up...

Where am I going to get muh Hatred now?!?

GOG; RELEASE THIS NOW!!!!!!!11!!1! (and release One Finger Death Punch while you're at it, that one is supposed to be awesome)

YaTEdiGo: Really? I am glad I didn't been the only one that imagined this, seriously I think the engine and the arts would fit something like this so well! And it would be also a much more interesting game.
avatar
DeathDiciple: I'm way more into turn based/tactical games than real time shooters, and I'm frankly quite disappointed at the lack of environment interaction in most of them. Got a sniper problem? Blow up half of the building. Or punch a wall in the back of enemy fort.

The art would work pretty well with any alien/postapoc/dystopian setting. Or, even stealth/covops. It will be interesting to see what/if they are planning something with the engine in the future.
Yes, exactly!

Well, based on my experience I would take what Rock Paper Shotgun says with a grain of salt. However filling for bankrupcy does nto always mean a company will die. There are other possibilities. Desura could be sold to a new owner (Which depending on who buys it could be good or bad) Or the company could recover from bankrupcy.

As a side note - yes. Yes, it is. It is one of the very few games who manages to take a game genre and distill it down to its prime elements and make it work. It may not look like it at first glance, but it is a very good game.

I'm a little torn right now: Do I throw the 3 bucks at Desura's rotting carcass, or do I wait and hope for it to pop up somewhere else.

Decisions...

It's also DRM-Free on and [url=http://www.shinyloot.com/one-finger-death-punch]Shiny Loot, albeit more expensive.

Thanks for the links. To hell with it, I just grabbed the game anyway. They really go full retard on their regional pricing over at Desura: charge €2.99 instead of $2.99, convert those €2.99 to US-Dollars and then back to Euro. I ended up paying €3.09 for a €2.99 game. Because reasons.

But I ain't holding out for GOG to chage their mind about whatever bullshit reason they came up with to not sell One Finger Death Punch ("not a good fit" probably), so whatever. Looking forward to the game!

It's not just Rock, Paper, Shotgun that has been reporting it:
http://gamasutra.com/view/news/245334/Desuras_parent_company_has_filed_for_bankruptcy.php
http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/28463/article/desura-indie-royale-owner-bad-juju-games-has-filed-for-bankruptcy-insider-reveals/

While yes a company filing for bankruptcy doesn't mean it's going to be a dead company but part of bankruptcy procedings requires the company to sell off all it's assets to pay back it's debtors see: Atari's and THQ's bankruptcy procedings. So this means the current owner of Desura will have to sell Desura and Indie Royale, pending there is a buyer and that means Desura can face the same fate that befell Direct 2 drive and Impulse where a company buys them and then basically all but desposes of the service.

I would not worry that much about Desura, there is a good chance it will survive under new management.

Funny enough the same thing was said when Linden Labs sold Desura to their current owner.

let me know what you think. I adore that game, perfect for all those small times between when you are at a bit of a loose end. And it is DRM free anyway on Desura, so with a backup you are fine.

And correct me if I am wrong, but Linden Labs bought it too right? Desrua might be cursed.

I'll tell you what I think: Thanks so much for giving me that final nudge in the right direction! Played the game for about an hour and it's fucking awesome! Huge fun, I can't wait to recommend it to all my friends. :)
