Fenixp: For crying out loud, we've been trough this discussion already. Hatred devs wanted to raise controversy. Do you want me to start sending links again or did you notice them first time around? That those article and blog writers were so happy to jump on the controversy and reinforce it is another matter entirely, but from the sounds of it, it's precisely what devs wanted to happen in the first place - and it turned out to be a very efficient strategy, because here we are, having people like Supremtin calling GOG "Lying hypocrites" for not wanting to sell it. Basically, when I want SJWs fighting for my game, all I need to do is to raise controversy and if I manage to raise enough ruckus, I will have manipulated people into fighting me without them actually stopping and thinking for themselves - which I find sort of sad, actually.

Yes! Being a huge Doctor Who fan - surprising as that may be ;) - I always marvelled at how many stories were released on VHS and DVD with universal 'U' ratings here in the UK, many not even receiving a PG. Oddly, the stories that sometimes did get a slightly higher PG rating were normally the ones that were pretty safe and not really clear what triggered the extra rating.

Take for instance 1977's brilliant 'The Robots of Death', given a Universal cert until the most recent DVD reissue here (some new extras bumped the rating up to PG). The reprogrammed robots have already bumped off many of the crew and are hunting down the rest of them. Jumping to 1'50" into this clip and you get a scene perfectly suitable for all ages :)

Even better on the first DVD release where IIRC that particular sequence looped around on the menu screen :P

(I'm just gutted I missed the DW crack in time banter cos of sleep, so I'm throwing this out here :)

I don't necessarily blame the devs for writing the blogs and articles, I do blame the devs for knowing all too well what will happen when they do what they did with the trailer. There had been a lot of historical precedent for such moves, and I highly doubt devs did not know about, say, Postal and controversy it raised. And when the controversy did spark, they did nothing to calm it down, quite the contrary. As far as I'm concerned, you're calling Hatred devs complete idiots by pretending that they did not expect this reaction. I, on the other hand, believe they are intelligent people who did have an idea of what will happen. Of course magazines and blogs are going to be easily manipulated into this, as you said yourself, they want clickbait fuel and Hatred devs provided in spades. What I find sad is the fanatical dedication from people who don't actually have anything to gain from it.

Look, I have actually changed my opinion of them and now I think they seem like pretty cool guys, and that they genuinely did not want things to go this far, beyond a few outraged internet articles - nonetheless, fact is that things did go this far.

you wanna know why the devs decided to take this path? cause they knew hypocrites(gog is one) and sjw's would give them all the advertisement they needed and if those hypocrites and sjw's would shut up this game wouldn't have attracted all these controversies and none of us would be here

The main thing is that I don't even look at intentions, just at facts.

I can see why you think they played on the controversy aspect, because it's probably part of the process, but that could never work without a lot of support from blogs and outraged persons. The devs can do whatever they want, but they can't fabricate controversy, possible censorship, uproar and such.

I don't think the devs are idiots, they just want the game to sell no matter what, just like CDPR, EA or anyone else. They are not hypocrites. Blogs that claim that Hatred is filth and disgusting giving a lot of exposure to the game, that's hypocrisy.

Still looks like a fun game, with a lazy and underdeveloped premise, like a lot of games out there. I'd like to see what they could do with a decent writer.
