Has anyone played the tactical combat RPG Natural Doctrine?

If so, what did you think?

I am not particularly a fan of Anime-style RPGs, but the tactical gameplay intrigues me.

I heard of it, but I have been hesitant to play it. Apparently, it's pretty brutal if you don't understand how to exploit its system.
