Prevention is better than cure. I've never contributed to Valve's numbers for Steam. Even having an account with nothing but free items would reinforce the anti-consumer platform.

Other than using it to contact someone who i couldn't get here... No i don't use steam, i don't like it, i HATE the client and UI. I don't know why.

So yeah i quit steam. Just a lot of hot air to me.

I have a large amount of games here on GOG. I have about 60% as many on Steam, and many of those are games I later bought on GOG. I still shop at Steam, but generally only for games not on here. However, lately with GOG going way downhill with their site and forum and displaying that they give absolute zero fucks, I think I may go back to Steam and start buying there regularly again.

It is impossible to quit steam unless you are broke, poor or lost interest in games.

Vast majority of excellent games are on steam that will never ever come to gog like devil may cry, new doom games, call of duty etc.

I've been gaming for almost 40 years, and I've never played a Devil May Cry, Doom, and I think I played one Call of Duty, just to see what the fuss was about (Infinite Warfare maybe?) If you only play triple A games by major publishers, then Steam might be a necessity. If you are willing to broaden your horizons a bit, and especially if you don't mind playing older games, you can absolutely find enough DRM-free games to keep you entertained.

I don't usually buy a lot anymore but i will buy BG3 on here.

Steam has indeed a large, the largest collection of games. No one can beat that.
It was really a thought but now i have doubts.

Anyway, i don't follow the issue that much anymore as i play these days very selective. Before i boughts what was on sale and i collected games i played maybe in my youth but never since.
I am still waiting for Impossible Mission or Dungeon Master. My all time favorites.

Anyhow, i like games without DRM. The main reason i am actually here.

While I haven't quit Steam yet, I have been trying to move in that direction for quite some time now with (I believe) a good deal of progress. I have about 7 games installed(mostly Souls-like games) on steam and plan to uninstall steam once I get what I want out of those games. As of late I mostly have been trying to narrow down my games list on the steam(and other store app shops) by either playing/beating them, downloading/backing up the DRM-Free games on there(and playing whenever) or as fate would have it by just having the game(s) community's die from old age and losing interest in them altogether.

Most of the newer games coming out nowadays just doesn't appeal to me in the least and the fact that everything is trying to sell me on season/battle passes,cosmetics,open world pvp,always online or early access makes me gag. I just found myself enjoying old single player games, small niche indie games or some random open source games out of nowhere.

GOG really isn't that much different on newer games and other stuff junking up the store but at least I can download the games and not go back on the site if I want to - unlike steam, so that's main reason I'm buying on here mostly nowadays.

The only reason why I still have Steam installed is for the odd multiplayer shenanigans, free-to-play games, and as a demo station. Haven't bought anything there in a long time.

I didn't use Steam for many years, but then I wanted to play the Dark Souls games, and after waiting for eons for a GOG release, I realized that they probably are never going to come to GOG at any point in my lifetime.

So a year or so ago, I started using Steam so I could play those games.

And I also felt like playing a sidescrolling beat 'em up game and I wanted to have a good online coop experience with that. I looked into the genre and found out that Streets of Rage 4 was the best modern game of that kind. It's on GOG too, but with Galaxy-only multiplayer and no Crossplay, which means the multiplayer is no doubt an unviable Ghost Town. So, for that reason, I bought that game on Steam too.

After I bought Skyrim on GOG and realized that it is missing massive amounts of mod compatibility due to the GOG version being a different version than the Steam one, and after realizing that the most popular and most downloaded mod collection for that game on Nexus Mods isn't compatible with the GOG version, I also bought Skyrim on Steam. But I haven't played it yet since I want to use a controller and the curator of that mod collection doesn't offer controller support even though the collection works with a controller; but installing the collection and figuring out how to make the controller work will be a pain that requires research, and that's what has kept me from playing it.

I also got tired of waiting for RE 2 Remake to come to GOG, so I bought that a year or so ago too, since it also is likely never going to come to GOG. And I also bought a bunch of other RE games while I was at it.

Before all that, though, I had very few games on Steam, and I had avoided games on Steam for many years.

I still don't like Steam and I hate buying games there.

But on the other hand, I don't want my whole life to go by without ever having played some great games that will most likely never be on GOG at any point in my lifetime, so this fact has forced my hand and coerced me into using Steam to some extent, even though I don't really want to.

Quitting because the forums are bad? We are here for gaming, not forum's. I don't use GOG or Steam for the forums. Steam forum's might not have a lot spam bots, but God is the community on whole another level.

Anyways I'm pretty much 90% GOG now. Use steam for some online games with friends like Day Z.
