JMich: The appropriate language has been explained in the sticky. There is more than one general discussion forum, use the language appropriate to that general discussion.
You may wish to read through the sticky before making assumptions, fables did a decent job of answering questions, even though I'm still not sure we got an answer to the sailor swearing one.
Regardless, it's quite clear to me hyperagathon's initial post was made in a joking manner, though rather late to this scene. What's not clear to me is whether everybody picking on hyperagathon are also joking (but in a very serious-like manner) or are actually serious with their misunderstanding. They could have simply ignored hyperagathon's posts, especially since they were not referenced.
