zeogold: If you'd seen the last 7-10 threads, you would know that the very creation of this one is 70% guaranteed to end in a mudflinging contest until somebody gets banned or the thing gets closed. Every time there's even a vague mention of the rules, it seems to end badly.

I too just noticed that new sticky. Then I saw this thread and wondered if you were talking about the same one.

I'm surprised people really care or hate each other that much at this point. When I joined the community it was advertised and self proclaimed as "the older, mature audience that doesn't need moderating". Then there was drama over this giveaway leech/person and those dereps and that person leaving for things happening somewhere off of the forums between members that undermined the entire sanctity of the site for them....

It's all just "someone on the internet made me upset." though and that doesn't have as much to do with the rules as it does with people not being as thick skinned as they thought. I just know that I personally look forward to what the next meal that makes fortune_p_dawg get bad gas/a stomach ache.

The place literally became filled with declarations of "Hitler did nothing wrong" and various manifestos about "subhumans" and "human trash" and endorsing Breivik-style attacks. Being thick-skinned is one thing, providing nazis with a soapbox is another. Also, why should GOG want a forum that requires everyone to have thick skin? It's a store for heaven's sake, not some private gaming forum. Naturally it should be accessible and friendly for all users. Do you think a guy randomly insulting patrons at a normal store should avoid being thrown out by security on the grounds of "it's not my fault those people have such thin skin"?

There's so many issues behind this that it'd take me days to write it all down. The best way I can summarize is that this became a wild west where anybody could say and do whatever the heck they wanted, and by some amazing surprise, it turned out that building an area with less rules than 4chan leads to a place that's just as toxic.
Now, before some mook shows up and says "But Zeo, 4chan isn't that bad!", yeah, maybe X percentage of it isn't, but its' generally recognized by the public as a cesspit. The majority of people don't enjoy being greeted with "faggot" or something similar.
