Some of the best PC games made by man will never come on gog.com. And that's why I buy them on steam.
However, if the game has additional Denuvo DRM or any other DRM, I simply boycott.

PookaMustard: While the backup mechanism works offline, the restore mechanism requires you to be online. So if you're offline for an extended period of time, they simply won't work, so don't bother. I have never found a way to restore them offline, and having left the service for a while, I'm not going to bother researching if it can be restored offline.
DeadPoolX: Sure, but who goes offline unless there's an outage? ALL THE TIME! :D
Satellite sucks, but in the middle of nowhere it's the only option.

Disillusioned is too strong a word. Steam is good in my opinion, but isn't as good as GOG.

I still play my old games i have on Steam now and then but i haven't bought from them in years and don't plan to begin again anytime soon either but i have noticed that they also have tons of issues and personally i hate their newest layout, i can't scroll down with my mouse wheel anymore either, steam requires authentication several times a day nowadays if have security enabled and when you are about to write your password the servers gives an error message every time so i have truly given up on that platofrm.
I have never really cared about Valves own games tbh.
For all design issues GOG have, steam is not really any better in my experience.

lumengloriosum: Not to mention forced updates where devs can change features of the game like Paradox Interactive with Europa Universalis 4.
It's not true. You can revert your version or even copy the game elsewhere because EU4 and other Paradox Games use Steamworks only for multiplayer. You can play solo without Steam running.I do it myself all the time.Every Paradox Development Studio Game is drm-free. Cordially.

DeadPoolX: You do know you can make backups of your downloaded Steam games, right? I do that all the time instead of re-downloading. It's very useful on exceptionally large games, like GTA5 (which is over 80GB or so). The only downside is it can take a few minutes for Steam to compress and backup a game, but once it's done you can just store it on an external hard drive.
Telika: Ah no, I didn't know that. I've checked it out, and it would have been handy (too late). At the condition that I take the habit of making "backups" of the installed games, just as I do with gog, but with half the reasons to (it facilitates reinstallation yet without making the game an "acquired copy stored offline"). It's a thing to consider, thanks. The best part is games with cloud support enabled so when you restore or redownload your game, the saves are back as well.

DeadPoolX: Sure, but who goes offline unless there's an outage? The last time I went offline (other than a rare outage, which also shut down power, so I couldn't use my computer anyway) was with dial-up back in the 90s. I also expect my backups to work without authentication that I own the stuff, so I can have my games shared across the two PCs in this household and perfectly playable at any time of the day without limits. Finally, if I have all the game data already available locally, there is no excuse not to make them work offline.
