Originally the owners of Hard West 1 were given a free DLC for Hard West 2, the "Faithful Outlaw Reward".
This was added for everyone, even without the base game.

Some users, who's parents did not teach them to not look a gift horse in the mouth, complained about it and GOG eventually removed it for seemingly everyone. I never asked for it to be removed!

Now that I have actually bought Hard West 2, I still cannot see this DLC. It's not on my web library, it's not in Galaxy. There are no serial keys on either Hard West 1 or 2.

So how should I go about acquiring it now? It was never for sale and it still isn't. As I mentioned previously, it was a hidden DLC reward for the owners of the original game. My order history still lists this DLC as "Refunded" for $0 (please see the attachment).

I have contacted support, but that should not have to be the standard path. There will probably be many new owners of both games, who will be unaware of this thread and unaware of what they've missed now.

Support have now returned this removed DLC to me, so thanks for that GOG.

I will still say though, that this kind of a situation should have been handled via a redeemable serial key, placed under the 1st game's "more" section. Other games on GOG have handled external bonus content in a similar manner. It's both easy to ignore and redeem. No one gets upset.

Well I came here to bump your thread, but I can't help but notice you completely misusing that phrase. To look a gift horse in the mouth is to scrutinise the quality or complain that the gift isn't good enough. Declining a gift is not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

When they saw that I wasn't happy with the removal of the DLC support contacted me and gave me a key for it. I didn't have to do anything. But I'm not sure how closely they monitor the forum. So your best bet is to contact support. They will help you.

So now anyone who wants the free DLC has to beg GOG for it? Come the fuck on people. So anyone who is directly unaware of the free DLC they are supposed to receive are just shit out of luck?

Is this really difficult to do? Maybe I'm out of line.

To the worthless chatbot I go!

You are correct, but if we look at complaints about it being unhidable, it could be interpreted somewhat as a "quality" complaint. In either case, it was something very easy to ignore. It's much harder to ignore something that's removed and not for sale.

I have contacted support and am still awaiting a response. As paladin181 and I said before though, depending on how they implemented this removal, there may very well be new buyers who will be completely unaware of this removal and the fact that they have to ask support for a DLC. This is not a good solution.

They should convert this DLC into a serial key and place it in the extras of the first game. They've been doing this for many games before, such as Bard's Tale, Bombshell, etc. They come with Serial Keys that can be redeemed for additional content, or easily ignored if unwanted, as they do not create a new library entry if unredeemed.

That's very interesting. Do you own Hard West 2 base game? If you do, when did you buy it? Was it before October 2022?

I absolutely agree. It should have been a (serial) key for the owners of Hard West right from the start. Would have been the best solution for everyone.

Did anyone complaining it was unhideable actually want the gift? If not, you can consider the complaint about not being able to hide it as a symptom of someone having an unwanted gift forced upon them. In other words, the complaint is about being forced to accept the gift, not the gift itself.

Fair enough, though said gift was still not taking up any physical space, nor digital space, beyond, possibly a total game number increase, though some comments in the original thread stated that even the count was unaffected. While it wasn't handled in the best of ways, it was still beyond easy to ignore.

I would not be surprised if these sort of complaints, some which were very angry and contained cursing (I have one of such deleted comments captured in a quote lol), contribute to some studios wanting to avoid this store. It's not just mandatory lack of DRM (which is fine), it's the attitude of the community. If someone gives me any game content of any theme or category, I will take it without a second thought.

Still though, this happened with U2 and iTunes, so GOG should have learned from history. I still don't get this mindset, but I can see the results. Now as a consequence I got mine taken away, despite clearly saying that I did not want it removed. Apple handled it better, by giving everyone a removal button, instead of just taking it away on mass.

GOG are yet to respond to this, either here or to a ticket. I regret not naming this topic "How To re-acquire the removed "Faithful Outlaw Reward" DLC?"

Still not a squeek from GOG staff about this. Not in the tickets, not in the forums. Ignoring it, is not going to make this go away.

Be persistent in your request. It took me 2 or 3 requests to remove this DLC from my own library. You should try to ask them to restore "your" Hard West - Faithful Outlaw Reward order.

I noticed they only removed the entry from my library, bu the order remained. I guess they have removed the order (after a while) from all the accounts that doesn't have Hard West 2 acquired.

It's very strange why this situation got messed twice already. The most easiest way was to add this DLC as a free separate item, so everyone who wanted it could claim it.

PM a community manager about renaming the thread - that will also draw their attention to the issue.
I'd like to have the DLC gift back too, frankly.
But ideally as a key, so I'll be able to redeem it when I'll get HW2.
An empty entry in the library was just a bad solution.
