jsidhu762: Hello!

Happy New Year everyone! It's not only the start of a new year, but also a new decade. Are there any resolutions you would like to share? I can't really think of a new one this year. Come to think of it, I couldn't come up with one last year. I'll make one up right now: This year I will be more diligent.

I'll just leave this here:

Decade starts on January 1, 2021.

Happy New Year, all. Still 4:45 to go here, but happy New Year to everyone already experiencing it.

No, but the calendar we use started on year 1, not year 0. A person born on Jan 1, 1980 would turn 1 on Jan 1, 1981. At the culmination of his 10th year he would turn 10, on Jan 1, 1990. However, there was no year 0, so a person born on Jan 1, 0001, would turn 1 at the culmination of their first year, on Jan 1, 0002. On Jan 1, 0010, they would turn 9. So their decade would not turn over until 0011. Where did we lose a year that subsequent decades would start on the 0 instead of the 1?

EDIT: Or in simpler terms, the first year is 1. 1 + 10 is 11, not 10. 11 + 10 is 21, not 20.

Happy New Year!

Hoping for the best in 2020 but if we are realistic, it'll take a lot of work.
Happy new years and new decade.

It's the beginning of the 20s, which will last from 2020 to 2029 inclusively which does count as a decade and is what most peoples mean.

The 203rd decade will begin next year but few peoples count years that way.

I do agree that the 21st century started in 2001 because peoples do count years in centuries but it is still a little bit pedantic to bring it up in most discussions.
Hey paladin181

I acidently reported your post as spam

I've been away for a while, I was just trying to downvote your comment, that the decade starts on 2021 [I thought the '-' was downvote button.

Sorry

Great start to the decade :(

Being born in 1980, and told it was the last year of the 70's has colored my view on this. Sorry, I just don't subscribe to the ridiculous notion that decades start on a zero, as that means people can't math properly. I have faith that most of humanity is not that stupid.
We're in the 2020 decade, 2020 years have passed, we're now within the 2030th decade.

on the 1st jan 2021, one year of this decade will have passed [the decade will be 1yo old]
