Get Bio Menace FREE, and up to 75% off Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Quake, and DOOM.

Happy Holidays from the GOG.com team!
The holiday season is here. The world, in all its little shopping frenzies and chaotic reunions, seems to slow down just a little. It slows to taste the crisp winter air, to be childishly entranced by all the lights and colors.

As for us, we're going to celebrate with a little something special.
With a new free game in our catalog: <span class="bold">Bio Menace</span>, something of a mix between the smooth and joyous gameplay of Commander Keen, and the alien weirdness of the original Duke Nukem platformers. The spacey 2D shooter by 3D Realms is now part of our selection of free, truly worth playing, classics.

With a Happy Holiday Sale from GOG.com & Bethesda:
Have a holly, jolly discount. It's the best time of the year. We don't know if there will be snow, but have a cup of deal. It's <span class="bold">up to 75% off the entire Bethesda catalog</span> on GOG.com - including the three and only classic Fallout games, as well as some of the best shooters in history: the retro Wolfenstein 3D & Return to Castle duo, The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II & Final DOOM alongside the Quake series (from the singleplayer gory of Quake + Quake II, through the timeless mutliplayer mayhem of Quake III). Finally, there's the chance to explore the history of The Elder Scrolls with classics like Morrowind, Battlespire, and Redguard.

As always, any purchase from the Bethesda catalog on GOG.com comes with a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall!

Looking for last-minute gifts? There ya' go.
The sale will last until December 29, 4:59 AM GMT.

Have a happy holiday season!

Grargar: The retail GOTY version was released in 2009, but I haven't heard of any other reissue of the game, aside the recently-released Anthology version mentioned by InfraSuperman above.
Are you talking about Morrowind or Fallout 3 here?

In any case, there are some weird inconsistencies in their Steam-pushing policy. The only new physical versions of Morrowind: GotYE that I could find online last year were basically Steam installers on a disc with a key for the Steam version of the game; whereas at least some of the retail disc versions of the base game (i.e., the non-GotY version) were Steamless (I think -- I wasn't really interested in these). I would imagine the situation for Bethesda's other recent-ish titles is similarly convoluted and inscrutable.

Fallout 3.

I do have a GOTY version of Morrowind that doesn't require Steam. Only the release by Mastertronic requires it. Of course, that does include almost all sealed copies (especially the cheap ones). A strange inconsistency regarding Bethesda's recent releases was the Elder Scrolls Anthology. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion are the non-Steam versions and only Skyrim is a Steam version. The pack also includes Steam keys for Morrowind and Oblivion (the Oblivion case is a bit infuriating as the game's plugins are only available through the Steam version).

plan99: Arggghh! What does this mean? Email says they're on sale, but not... yet, anyway. You know something Mr. Maybe and I've been waiting a while for Manhattan Project. The other Duke's have been on sale from time to time, but not Manhattan, at least that I remember. Now it "may be", lol, leaving on the 29th and I want that sale price.

Maybe it's going up in price when it changes hands, maybe it'll be on sale right after it changes hands, maybe the sale email was early instead of late this time <chuckles>, maybe, maybe, maybe... You've got the right tag. ;)

mecharma: Hm...:)
Thanks! Got a little more out of you. Now I just have to piece the hints together. :P

Yeah, I had just looked that up again myself on Amazon a little bit ago, out of curiosity.

Are Arena and Daggerfall even available on Steam?
Also, since it sounds like you have the Anthology: is the disc version of Morrowind the GotYE, or the base game, the expansions and the construction kit-thing, all installed separately? Because on the Amazon product page, nowhere that I noticed in the official description does it actually mention the Game of the Year Edition.

Yeah, you have to go to Steam to get yer horse armor. =(

Taken together, "curious" and "hm" are an anagram for "music hour". What could it mean?!

HunchBluntley: Are Arena and [/i]Daggerfall[/i] even available on Steam?
No, but Bethesda could have always issued Steam-only versions for Morrowind and Oblivion; they didn't for one reason or another.

I don't have the Anthology myself, but I did buy it for a friend. It does include both expansions (Tribunal and Bloodmoon), as well as the Construction Set as separate discs. Here is a larger picture of the contents.

And the Fighter's Stronghold and the Wizard's Tower and Thieves Den... oh well...

Ah, yeah. Forgot about pictures. :P
It boggles my mind that they would bother including four separate discs for Morrowind alone, when I would guess that the GotYE should fit on one (maybe two?) DVD-ROMs. I imagine that was just another tactic to push people to say "Fuck it, I'll just use the Steam version that came with Skyrim," rather than mess around with three or four install discs. Same deal with Oblivion's nickel-and-dime DLC being Steam-only. But maybe I'm just a paranoid cynic. =)

johnnygoging: IS ANYBODY USING MODS WITH THIS??
avatar
HunchBluntley: You mean for Bio Menace? I don't think there are any mods for it. :P

avatar
htown1980: so there are no game pages for The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall??
avatar
HunchBluntley: No. Just think of them as being bundled with each of the games listed as being published here by Bethesda, rather than as freebies. Kind of like Softporn Adventure being included with Leisure Suit Larry: Greatest Hits and Misses. Not sure why BethSoft structured it that way, as opposed to offering them truly for free like Bio Menace and the other freebies, but it's their call.
Its just that they were released towards the end of my video playing games so I really don't know much about them...

Azhdar: Buy Fallout 1 as well. :)
No, I don`like Fallout one!

To be fair, there was a Mastertronic release of Morrowind that does not require Steam. That doesn't excuse the fact that one requiring Steam even exists though.

It certainly does fit on a single DVD. Strangely, the release I have has separate installers despite being on the same disk. At least it is a slight improvement on 4 CDs, but not by much.

It's an incentive to make you buy one of their other games: look, buy this whatever game and you get these for free on top!

I guess you're a Fallout 3 fan. Am I wrong? :))

Oh, I forgot that the PC Gamer version was issued by Mastertronic.

Well, it's easier (and lazier) to just print the same discs again rather than creating a new launcher/disc that contains everything.

Never played Fallout 3, but New Vegas. I played Fallout 1 in the nineties and it was no fun for me.

Well, if you love FONV, then you may enjoy Fallout 2 too. :)
THIS IS the price these games should be bought at.
Bethesda GFY.
