Happy Holidays from the GOG.com team!
The holiday season is here. The world, in all its little shopping frenzies and chaotic reunions, seems to slow down just a little. It slows to taste the crisp winter air, to be childishly entranced by all the lights and colors.

As for us, we're going to celebrate with a little something special.
With a new free game in our catalog: Bio Menace, something of a mix between the smooth and joyous gameplay of Commander Keen, and the alien weirdness of the original Duke Nukem platformers. The spacey 2D shooter by 3D Realms is now part of our selection of free, truly worth playing, classics.

With a Happy Holiday Sale from GOG.com & Bethesda:
Have a holly, jolly discount. It's the best time of the year. We don't know if there will be snow, but have a cup of deal. It's up to 75% off the entire Bethesda catalog on GOG.com - including the three and only classic Fallout games, as well as some of the best shooters in history: the retro Wolfenstein 3D & Return to Castle duo, The Ultimate DOOM, DOOM II & Final DOOM alongside the Quake series (from the singleplayer gory of Quake + Quake II, through the timeless mutliplayer mayhem of Quake III). Finally, there's the chance to explore the history of The Elder Scrolls with classics like Morrowind, Battlespire, and Redguard.

As always, any purchase from the Bethesda catalog on GOG.com comes with a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall!

Looking for last-minute gifts? There ya' go.
The sale will last until December 29, 4:59 AM GMT.

Have a happy holiday season!

cimerians: I don't like the way many games say ADD TO YOUR CART when I already own them. What gives?
1) There are 2 Fallout entries in the catalog. Newer ones count as Bethesda purchases and give you Arena and Daggerfall (I think), older ones have a few more extras (atm).
2) You may always want to buy a game you already own as a gift.
Thanks for the freebie, GOG, even with official Linux support from the start! :)

But I still don't like it when the Fallout games eye on me as if I would not own them. ;)

Niggles: Who clicked on this hoping New Vegas, Dishonored or Skyrim was coming? :/
Not me. I was hoping for Doom 3 non BFG version though :)

Yeah, GOG really needs to get Doom 3!

Maxvorstadt: Hm, I`m tempted to buy Morrowind now and also Fallout 2. But I`m not sure about Fallout 2. Has it the same random encounters with extremely overpowered enemies like the first one?
Sind sie zu stark, bist du zu schwach. :-)

The main problem in the beginning of Fallout 2 is that it takes a while, till you get a gun. You're a tribal, after all. So if small guns is your main weapon skill, you'll have a hard time. It all balances out, though, once you find your first gun.

Crackpot.756: Thanks, quite elaborate.
Sounds like it wouldn't bore me like Oblivion did. Not sure what it was about that game, but after a few hours of wandering I just couldn't be bothered anymore. Meanwhile, Skyrim made me feel like nothing mattered; the only difference between playthroughs is what skills you use. How's Morrowind with choices and consequences?

StickOfPlywood: The biggest choices are to follow the main story at all, going with certain guild factions, staying as a vampire or continue the main story, and becoming a werewolf or not. As a vampire, only some of the Ashland native inhabitants and Telvanni mages will be okay with you, but there is a unique vampire questline. The story elements outside of Solstheim come to a stop as a werewolf. If NPC's die, they stay dead, and many guild factions make you kill NPC's... Sometimes even opposing leaders.

[snip]
I actually completed the main quest, as a vampire. I found it quite difficult, but after looking around for a good long while, I found a way.

Granted, most of the populace don't like you, but it is possible. :-)

Maxvorstadt: So, which mods would you recommend? If I remember right, then Morrowind has the same weight problems like the other TES games, which means that looting is not easy in this game. Is there a mod to fix that?
That is quite large topic, Morrowind forum already contains some recomendations. For the specific problem with weight, I have always used pack animal merchant mod (scroll to the middle of the page), combined with some companion teleport. It doesn't impact balance as much as changing encumberance multiplier. It won't allow you to wear full daedric armor without training your strength heavily, and still allows you to loot everything that isn't nailed down. In my latest game, my poor packrat carries around about 18000 weight units. Of course it can't move with such load, that's why companion teleport is so important - I just summon it when I need to offload more junk.

Chestnut packhorse filled the same role in Oblivion, but the summoning method is weird - there are probably better mods than that.
Merry Christmas GOG and everyone else! And thanks for the gift! =)

Crackpot.756: Thanks again!
Sounds like it actually matters what you do. Also sounds like I could fuck myself over by making decisions - funnily enough, I consider that to be a good thing. Guess I'll give it a shot, after gathering some mods.
No problem! What you do isn't felt as strongly as in, say, the Infinity Engine titles, but the NPC's don't forget your deeds (or misdeeds) easily when they are relevant to them. Most of the important decisions and events come later, but even early decisions (such as visiting the first cave dungeon to free captured slaves, or selling the narcotics found there to certain khajiit merchants) can affect some events later on. Almost immediately after you land in Seyda Neen, your tendencies towards lawfulness or criminality are already being tested.

Very nice, specially Bio Menace. Thanks GOG, Bethesda & 3D Realms.

Want to see these games on GOG 2016:

Interesting... I thought the cure was necessary to proceed, but I guess certain Blades like Caius don't really care. :p
It'd be cool if some new Bethesda games are added to the sale this week (aka new releases but at a discount).

Fantastic freebie!

Thank you for the little surprise, GOG. :)

Happy Holidays, everyone!

liamphoenix: Skyrim, Fallout 3, and New Vegas would be nice though. Especially as they all have Steam and I can't just pop in the CD/DVD like with my older Bethesda games.

Grargar: My Fallout 3 disc doesn't require Steam.
Same here, but it does have GFWL and some other crap on it -- Securom or something? With all the hype about Fallout 4, I recently decided to install my retail copy of Fallout 3 again, but grew so annoyed with the DRM and other forced junk that I swiftly removed it from my computer again. I'd much rather have a truly DRM-free version from GOG.
