i can't stand it when im talking to someone and they do that thing where they grab their pinky finger like on one hand with the index finger on the other hand like theyre going to start backwards counting off different points that theyre going to make, but they never actually do.

i swear, half the poeple i know do this but they dont even know theyre doing it. its so weird.

They probably do it on purpose to drive you insane. You should confront them about it.

Brits sure have a different way of showing it. First time I saw it I was seriously confused.

I thought it was (physically) a universal gesture, just that it was known by various names. Unless the Brits you saw perform said gesture were stoned out of their heads (which are usually the type of people here to use such gestures...).

I meant the V sign. Isn't that something similar to giving the middle finger?

Brits, living on an isolated island, developed their own offshoot vernacular. So they use a reversed V for Victory; where instead of the fingers facing outward, they turn inwards, and often vertically elevate the hand; as a gesture of "Shove em up yours!", because the classy people they tend to be, to conflate self sodomy or masterbation as an insult.

We have and use both gestures, almost as much as each other. Though, from my experience, the old prefer to use the two finger gesture and the young the middle finger gesture. Me!, I have no preference...

Funny, how cultures differ. I never noticed any special hand gestures when Germans talk. Instead some always try to touch you on your shoulder or arm when talking. I HATE that. I always want to scream: "Keep your hands away! You don´t need them for talking!"
