Up to 90% off this bag full of tasty scares: Outlast, Clive Barker's Undying, Oxenfree, SOMA, Fran Bow, and more!

You are listening to a song that sounds like your grandma playing ping-pong with a gentleman stag. Suddenly, a distant noise of something breaking - or perhaps it's just the neighbor chopping down your favorite tree. But you live in the desert. It's all very confusing and disorienting until you check the calendar and realise it's almost Halloween! Time to put on your spooky face and go search the neighborhood for some scary good games going for up to 90% off. Time to go through The Scary Door.

Everyone you know is out here trick or treating, dressed up as something cool like the kids in Costume Quest. Be careful which houses you visit, though. Better avoid disturbing the disturbed Cat Lady downstairs, for starters. And that Last Door at the end of the road? It's strangely inviting, despite its ancient looks, but what are these eerie sounds coming from inside? Should you happen upon a wandering girl with a bag full of weird red candy, be so kind and help her find her cat. Poor Fran Bow has already been through enough.
This is one of these nights where your friends might try to drag you to some remote island with an abandoned military facility for some midnight mischief. If you want to feel Oxenfree for a while, feel free to join them, but better check if any of your buddies is possessed first, or you might end up stuck in a ghostly loop. Then again, you might not even make it there, not if you need to cross a Sunless Sea ruled by terrible Gods and odd creatures. Ah yes, this is definitely going to be a night to remember. Unless you decide to force some merciful Amnesia upon yourself, trying to dispel your Personal Nightmares. But why would you do that?

Enter The Scary Door and treat yourself to 30+ games that will give you the heebie-jeebies, including: SOMA, Clive Barker's Undying, Layers of Fear, Outlast, and so many others!
The promo will last until November 3, 3:59 AM UTC.

Splatsch: So in short, a game worth to play, but with a lot of issues due to it being a very bad port...
In few words, what is good for you both ? What kind of atmosphere and humor is there ?
(thanks for the help by the way :))
Much of what omega64 mentioned. There's just nothing quite like it, A very unique game, with a lot of delightful Twin Peaks-like strangeness to it. And of course, the soundtrack is phenomenal. At this price it's a no-brainer :) I just got it working properly again today, so I'll try to finally finish it now :) Of course, it is a bad port, and I've had many issues with it so far, but YMMV.

oldgameryeah: Nothing for me in this promo, not into to horror.
Costume Quest is an RPG about Halloween and imagination.
Superhot is a puzzle shooter.
Sunless Sea is a steampunk fantasy adventure.
Wuppo is a weird metroidvania.
Oxenfree is a teen drama.
Meh, nothing.

omega64: The main character is a delight, seeing visions in his coffee, the woman whose hotel you stay at sitting at the other end of a very long table shouting, loud (awesome) music during cutscenes. The character talking to an imaginary character discussing old movies during car rides and many other things.

Sounds really intriguing and interesting, even if I only know Twin Peaks by name (and I must say I'm not fan of Lynch's work in usual, even if I find it interesting).
Are there answers or is it only "strangeness with only questions in the end" ?
(and thanks for the "fix link just in case" ;))

Scary door? This is rickdiculous!
On the other hand, the lack of absolutely anything noteworthy for Halloween, paves the way for a pre-Xmas insomnia.

A man can dream, can't he?

So, the Steam Sale has started.
Aside from an image link on the front page, there's nothing much else to it.
I was right, it's both underwhelming and disappointing.
I hate being right.

For thos interested by Oxenfree, it is currently cheaper on Steam!

Ixamyakxim: I haven't played it, but from what I read it took away a lot of tension from the original game. Most of the scares are carefully locked behind doors and don't lead to encounters (monster behind glass) AND to make it worse your lantern is both unlimited AND flickers when a monster is near.

IronArcturus: That's too bad. I was hoping for a decent sequel to Amnesia. Did the game devs ever mention making a third game?
Which devs? A Machine for Pigs was made by a different developer than The Dark Descent was, and I think they were savaged by fans of the first game because of how bad many thought their sequel was. In response, they kind of tried to throw their publisher (i.e., the devs of the original) under the bus to deflect criticism. (So, that's probably a "no".)
I may finally pick up SOMA along with this week's EA triple-pack. :)
.89 cents for Shadow Man? Gotta pick that up for the OSTs.

Funhaus played some "spooky" old games (BloodNet, Realms of the Haunting, and Noctropolis) on their video today, and I noticed Shadow Man icon on the desktop. I think all the games they played were GOG versions because the icons were round. :)

Do use DPfix no matter what, You'll be locked to low resolutions without it.
There is some stuff that might get explained. :P
SCARY!

Vythonaut: Do yourself a favor and buy STASIS. I can't describe how much fun I had when I played it. "Fun" I said? "Terror" I meant.. Goosebumps all over the place. Moments that I won't ever forget; it's that good!

From a technical point of view, it's pretty much flawless: great graphics (classic isometric view) & superb sound effects that lead to a great atmosphere, simple but very good gameplay and puzzles that aren't too difficult especially for folks that don't have much experience with adventure games (like me for example).

There are some scare jumps here & there but they don't feel cheap because they aren't overused throughout the game. Also, you can die. Horribly. Can't say much about this, it's a horror game after all. ;)

If you enjoyed sci-fi movie classics like the Alien series, sci-fi game classics like System Shock series and isometric horror adventure games like Sanitarium, you owe it to yourself to play this masterpiece. 10/10
I somehow didn't see this post on the first thread read-through. I agree with everything here, with the following addenda:

1. You can die, but dying is painless to you the player. Your character is kinda meant to die from time to time, because, er, horror game, but the game doesn't punish you for it killing him.

2. If you didn't enjoy some or any of the above classics (like me), know that the game is independently awesome. Horror implies a degree of powerlessness. Videogame implies player agency. Those are really hard to combine without breaking immersion. Stasis does basically everything right.
Concerning , the developers mention science fiction writer Peter Watts as an inspiration, mainly from his Rifters saga. Last week he wrote a spoiler-rich [url=http://www.rifters.com/crawl/]review.

'Bottom line, I think they did a damn fine job.'

Yeah, even with the soundtrack included ...
