Okay, time to scare the living shit outa myself. (which comes easy, me being total chickenshit)

Tonight, I'll take my laptop out in my garden and plays some horror titles. Feeling the cold wind against your face makes the horror a bit more real than when its played inside the safety of your home. Highly recommended.

I just bought Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi. I'm also installing Lone Survivor, Costume Quest, Last Door, Deadly Premonition and Penumbra: Overture. Let's see how many minutes I last ...

Happy Halloween!

Penumbra does it for me. It's funny, it gets complaints all the time for its clunky controls, but it manages to convey the sense that I am an ordinary guy fumbling around and scared shitless who is as likely to die from tripping over his own feet or by making an unwanted noise as by any other way. [Screaming, thrashing about in my chair while trying to swing the pickax back and forth by waving my mouse around]

Have fun!
Back in the days of the original PlayStation, I plugged it into our Hi-Fi so we could play in Stereo (2.0 !)

Scared myself silly playing resident Evil, when I heard zombies shuffling from the kitchen.
"alone and in the dark"

Pretty much describes my sex life.
What must your neighbour think? My screams are a dark gift, reserved for the chosen few permitted to enter my soundproofed chambers.

Add some spice to that sex-life, try it with the lights on sometimes!

Most of those are good games, but aside from Penumbra most of them aren't very scary.

I've been playing Amnesia 1 & 2 for the first time this month, and those are good Horror games. Not without flaws, but a solid creepy experience overall. Now I just started playing SOMA recently.

System Shock 2 and Clive Barker's Undying are still surprisingly atmospheric and creepy games, despite their dated visuals. It's mostly in the voice acting, creature and ambient sounds.

And Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is one of the best Horror themed games I've ever played, but sadly not available here. Brilliant atmosphere and pacing, especially during the first half or so.

By the way, thanks for making a Halloween/Horror themed thread. Been considering to do so myself, so you saved me the effort. :P

Edit: Oh yeah, Outlast is worth a look as well. The gameplay isn't perfect, and it's more of a fast-paced, over the top Splatter Horror game, rather than the subtle atmospheric Horror of Amnesia, Silent Hill etc., but not bad overall, and definitely has its memorable moments.

Try playing Aliens Versus Predator 2000 Classic (Marine campaign) in the dark with headphones on for a sense of real paranoia and waiting for stuff to jump out at you from dark corners.

Well, maybe you should come out of the closet. >rimshot<
Right, so if I play Lovely Planet or Super Hexagon, am I doing it right?
I doubt that Costume Quest is scary though.:D

Oooh I like the wrinkle of doing this outdoors!

I'm actually going to start my "Halloween Playthrough" tonight! It's a dark, stormy evening, I've had Outlast on the back burner for JUST this event and I've got a bourbon barrel stout ready to go!

The only downside is playing in the dark is going to cost me watching the World Series but I think I'll make that sacrifice tonight!

You want to hear something even more depressing? My mother is watching the Republican Debate over the World Series! :O

God I hope I'm adopted.

LOL - I hope you have an unoccupied room with a large TV... though come to think of it, THIS could be your own Halloween scarefest if you have one of those setups where every TV has to be on the same channel...

*He ran, from room to room, down one vacant corridor after the next... to no avail! Gripping his head in both hands, screaming maniacally, he suddenly realized the terrible truth. IT WAS ON... EVERY... CHANNEL!!!*
