sMull: Strange opinion, since in my view the game is full of memorable moments. Set pieces, dialogue, story moments etc. And there is a story, a story of revenge.
Breja: "Strange" doesn't even begin to cover it. Max Payne is probably the most story driven action game that I know. Hell, I've played plenty adventure games and even RPGs that don't hold a candle to it in that department. Breja

darthspudius: The Witcher has a great story. Real development and progression. Max Payne had a drunk ex cop, a murdered family and stale typical bad guys. Sure, MP's story is straightforward and cliched- it's all about how it's told. It's immersive, surreal, and dark and funny. That said, as with anything that is so very styliased, it's not to everyone's liking. If you don't love that neo-noir style and the surrealelements thrown into the mix then the bare-bones story itself will not impress you.

adamhm: I could already imagine the background music & his voice reading it :p
Also while I think of it I would also like to bring some attention to these excellent widescreen fixes for Max Payne 1 & 2 (as well as other games), in case anyone is unaware of them: https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#maxpayne Some minor issues but a huge improvement overall.
Personally I just play without the fixes and simply select the option in my graphic card for having the game screen centered. So I play normally with two black bars on either side like if i had a 4:3 monitor. Works good without the need to tinker around with the fixes and their issues. Also while I think of it I would also like to bring some attention to these excellent widescreen fixes for Max Payne 1 & 2 (as well as other games), in case anyone is unaware of them: https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#maxpayne Some minor issues but a huge improvement overall.

Prior to discovering the widescreen fixes I just set a virtual desktop for them to run them in a window, but they're both *much* better with the widescreen fixes IMO. I've played through both games with the widescreen fixes & there are hardly any issues with them - just the graphic novel display issue (*very* minor issue on my system at least - was still fully visible, just the controls were a little out of place... can just press F2 to correct it anyway) and some mirrors in MP2 glitching when outside of the normal 4:3 display area. No hassle to set up, either.
