Time to reshuffle!

The second big patch for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game has just arrived on PC and Xbox One and it's bound to make the Beta even more fun for veterans and newcomers alike.

Here are some of the biggest changes you'll immediately notice:

- The card Clear Skies has been revamped. It is now called First Light and lets you choose between two effects when you play it: you can either remove all Weather effects or summon a Bronze unit from your deck.
- Geralt: Igni, one of the most popular cards you'll come across, now works when the row you're targeting has a total strength of at least 20 instead of 15.
- Plenty of cards had their strength values changed. Among them: Ciri went from 8 to 6, Prince Stannis went from 7 to 8, Odrin went from 5 to 4, and Mahakam Guard went from 3 to 4.
- Stammelford's Tremors now deal 2 damage to both sides of the board.
- "Medic" category is now known as "Permadeath". Units of this category cannot be resurrected. That includes usual suspects like Nenneke, Shani, and Lubberkin.
- Various fixes and improvements in the game.

If you want to study the full changelog, you can find it here.

adaliabooks: This is a really good point. Treating the game like there are fixed 'rules' is the path to disaster.
WHAT???

Well, come then, face me in a game or two. And wait until I start killing your Geralt(s) with my nekkers. My Fiends can block Foltests ability to copy bronze cards, and for each Freya Pristess or Sigrdrifa you restore in any way, I get 5 Eredins and 3 Scorches summoned because of my active Radovid card, so best beware. Those are namely no fixed, not mentioned and not written rules too, I bet you never heard of them. I wonder how will you like it ;-)

That's not what I mean and you know it. The cards do what they say on the card, if that contradicts any 'rule' you think exists then it doesn't matter, the cards are the rules, they are final.

Point me to the rulebook. Where all these 'rules' you're so fond of are. When I started playing I didn't see a manual, I just played the (awful) tutorial. Nobody explained what an Ambush was, or a Disloyal card, I figured it out myself by playing them.
If a card says I can destroy a gold card then it can (none do as far as I'm aware, only a few that can damage them). There is no rule that says gold cards are invincible, just a load of cards that say they do not effect gold cards.

Maybe when there is a full release they will have a codified set of rules, but I doubt it as it would limit the ability to add new cards that do different things if they would break them.

I've been happily playing with Scoiatel and I'd say I win 50% of games, sure sometimes I lost (to all factions) but I can beat them all too with a bit of luck. I rarely ever come out of a game and think that I never stood a chance because my opponent used a certain tactic. I've beaten plenty of Skellige decks, even Resurrect ones.
I did want to post agan, that I do like almost all the changes made. Skellige aside.
I would like to know what the "Worthy Opponent" is based on? Wins & losses? Level ? How much someone has spent? It seems that it's flucuating wildly.
A few things I've noticed...

A special card was played by my opponent via Elven Mercenary but was not available to my Aglais.

You changed the Hawker Support in two ways that really wrecks its use. First being only your special cards make a difference. The last patch changed its boost from being at the moment the card was played to being after the special card resolved itself. Wasn't that enough to balance its usage?

I play on my laptop and notice inconsistency in deploying of cards. When I tried to use my touch screen to drag cards, it never worked like I would have expected. Using the touchpad I still experience problems playing cards. Do I doubletap? Do I tap once then drag? Some cards I have to select, then select the row, then either double press or press enter. It's frustrating but improved slightly with the latest patch.

One suggestion - bail on the level system. It has no context or import. Please find a method to quantify player ability over counting total number of wins.

In a Scoiatel vs Scoiatel, I have never had the opportunity to select who goes first. Is the Scoiatel faction benefit ignored when it's a fight within the family?

That said, thank you! Love your work. And if you want to start another franchise, I have the story for you my friends...

Guys, as for the matchmaking, just think about it. We are playing BETA version of the game so devs gave us only the simpliest mode to play. Which is totally cool because what more is needed? Description ingame says that we are playing a "friendly game of Gwent" so it has nothing to do with both level and winratio. In the actual game you will be able to face either the very best players or newbie ones in this mode. So, as it says it is just a Casual Match, w/o statistics and shit.

But the ranked mode will be there FOR SURE. I think that it will be looking similar to Hearthstone, because there is like no other option. Just casual games to get stuff and play for fun without worrying about statistics and then the ranked games with some kind of leagues.

The level might be usefull in story mode.

These are just my thoughts tho.

A way to actually experiment not just get stomped by assholes with stacked decks that can't even be arsed to give the good game bonus?

Yeah, the faction benefit cancels out in that case.

Will0Wisp: Not playing another game till Skellige is fixed. Everyone making the same deck to take advantage of a bug
avatar
GICaesar: Right...

Freya Priestesses (being permadeath) can't restore other Freya Priestesses anymore.
However I just played against a Skelliger who summoned a dead Freya Priestess with his Restoration card... So the developers are probably still fixing the bug.

I also, will neither play as Skellige nor play against Skellige till this is finaly fixed.
Permadeath is not Relentless. Relentless is permantly removed from game once destroyed. Permadeath cards can be restored by silver or gold restoration cards, but permadeath cards cannot be restored by bronze resurrection cards. The reason for this is enemy strategy can 'steal' a bronze resurrection card for their own game.

The wording on permadeath isn't very clear I agree, but the concept is

[Update] - Only happened once. Doesn't happen anymore.

After this update(0.8.25), if I loose a game, nothing is shown during the 'Spoils of War - Rewards Summary' it's just a black that screen. There is still an option to send 'Good Game' and 'Skip' the rewards summary and it's also working normally when I win. Not sure if this is a bug. Is anyone else facing the same? And if it is a bug, please lemme know. Thanks!

Does it say 'No Rewards'? Or just empty?

Mine will say No Rewards if I lose and don't get a good game (which I think is pretty poor form if the other player has won...) but it will come up with what I've received otherwise...

No, it just stayed at 'Spoils of War' srceen and nothing happened. The only options were to either skip the 'Reward Summary' or 'Send Good Game'. Anyhow, this only happened once, played a few games after that and when I lost again, it didn't happen anymore. Was some sort of a One-Time bug.

had the same happen across several games. Rebooted my box and had all the missing loot waiting when i logged back in. If this happens to you, please try logging out & back in and see if that is the key.

One play suggestion...

If a weather effect is already active, re-activating that same effect should not impact units already under that weather. For example, if I buff up a creature that was reduced to 1 by a Frost spell, it should not be reduced to 1 again simply because Frost is re-cast. From a logical perspective, that makes no sense.

Now please excuse me. My elves be wanting to whoop some folks.

Mr.ZoltanChivay: Why Monsters and scoiatael is to much OP
I must really suck at playing Scoiatael then. =/ But I definitely agree on the Monster decks. "Whoa, hey, there is my little pet... and his 40 other friends are going to beat you into a bloody pulp in two seconds flat!" Yeah, that's fun... I guess.

Monster's are heavily countered by damage dealing cards and traps/ambushes. A lot of monster strats can basically be "nuked" off the board.

Yeah, this is very true. However a well played weather deck with monsters is really hard to beat. If they have Dagon as leader and all the weather summoning units they can summon loads of weather effects through out the game, and there is only so much you can do against that.
