Ah TCGs, the OG lootbox-sellers and whale-milkers. They were doing it decades before it caught on in videogames. Steam can have Gwent, in fact I'd feel better about GOG if we didn't have it on here.
...And stay out!! *claps hands*

Oh, wait, it's still here, though? Bummer.

For ANYONE asking how GWENT could work without connection, trying to say it's not DRM, etc, I invite you to check out GOG's "sister site", FCKDRM.com, which has a very nice compare/contrast graph showing the difference between DRM and DRM-free media. Let me know using the graph there, as to which category GWENT belongs.

Look I'm sure it's a fine enough game for those into the genre. I just don't think what is effectively a DRMed game belongs on a DRM-free store. Say what you will about the games here that have DRM-free singleplayer yet effectively DRMed multiplayer...I'd argue logically they don't belong here either, but at least they're accessible without a connection. GWENT should be sold directly on CDPR website, on Scheme, on mobile, on anywhere BUT a platform that claims to be a DRM-free store. Its presence here is cause for a lack of consumer confidence.

In addition this may seem a stretch but I blame GWENT for why Cyberpunk PC "can't" be exclusively sold here on GOG:

In an alternate reality, had Thronebreaker been designed as a "mini-Witcher" entry, it could have garnered more sales and remained exclusive itself, thus bringing more customers in and building up hype for Cyberpunk as the GOAT game. Unfortunately, Thronebreaker was more of a tepid release and designed around GWENT mechanics; apparently it even comes bundled with GWENT the game itself in your library (the latter is why I have yet to buy Thronebreaker even on deep discount).

fr33kSh0w2012: If I wanted to play a card games I'd BUY A fucking PACK OF CARDS!

KiNgBrAdLeY7: No, you certainly wouldn't! That stuff is too expensive even for me! Trust me on that one, i used to play Yugi Oh back in the day. Black market makes things worse further. But the real issue is the rules changing constantly (limited or forbidden cards and whatnot), thing which delivers devastating blows even to veterans, rich players, deck builders.

Card games is a legit scam. Even videogames on them have various glitches, omit some cards (ergo you are nowhere guaranteed to have a full collection), have microtransactions etc.
No not that shit I mean Queens Slipper pack of 52 playing cards!

I bought Thronebreaker (haven't played it yet) and there's no trace of Gwent in my library.

That's very curious (not saying I don't believe you, I do believe you and I value your input on the "DRM-related" topics for sure). I just checked the gamepage and below the requirements it says "Note: Owners of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will get GWENT: The Witcher Card Game added to their library." So maybe they haven't gotten around to "improving" your library with it yet?

No idea. Maybe they used to push it that way, stopped, but forgot to remove that note? >Shrug< If it's ever added I'd just hide it anyway. A bit of an annoying way to push their game, but not much of an issue.

Hmmmmm this is even more dangerous; people have lost wives, businesses, fortunes, entire lives even, while playing with and betting on those "devil papers"!

Then it's good sport. But i would never touch cards again. Last card i 've been dealt, had been Tarot Death, from a red-haired waitress in a novelty "occult cafe". Ever since then, i keep anything card-related beyond a zone of safe distance!

Wut?
Warum sollte es uns wütend machen?
Why should that make us angry?
