I think Haribo has a monopoly where I live... I've never seen any other brand. Then again, I don't really eat gummy bears. I do sometimes like Haribo's raspberries, thought.

Really, I never understood it either. It always looked and tasted like some sort of knockoff candy to me.

@ the thread starter: Yes, Haribo are good; but I prefer their Cola Bottles, Strawberries, Cherries or other fruit shapes to their Bears. For Bears Heidi (which for some reason are very difficult to find as of late) & Black Forest are really good. For Worms Black Forest are by far my favorite. If you're near a 7-11 their private label brand of gummies are pretty good.

That's because Haribo is a Danish company, and black licorice (the only thing I'd call licorice, actually) is popular in Scandinavia.

The company actually started off by making candy corn.
Now they make jelly beans, chocolate-covered almonds, gummy cola bottles, gummy bears, mints...
