XCOM: UFO Defense (or Enemy Unkown) depending on country.

EDIT
Wait... Terror from the deep, hence the 'ground combat' mention?

two misses, you do fight on islands locations in X-Com Terror from the Deep.

There are ground combat missions in TftD ;) I don't want to steal a victory from, double check the series and post again ;)

yeah, there are... I just thought that was a subtle hint since most are underwater missions, but then the missiles don't make sense.

Must be Interceptor then... lol.

You got it! :)
I'm stuck on a mission where I have to protect a friendly ship from 2 frigates, several missile interceptors, a capital ship, and finally a carrier. I don't unlock an upgrade if the friendly ship loses 25% or more of it's hull.

Hint since it's been a while: the unlockable upgrade is a shield upgrade. And the black fleet sucks.

Homeworld?
No. Another clue since I beat that mission earlier.

The next mission required me to draw the colonials attention from Earth by destroying their supply fleet, thus buying time for the U.N.E to destroy the relic before it can destroy Earth.
Strike Suit Zero. The description was already sounding familiar to me, the black fleet just cinches it.

Correct. Your turn.
Here I am, captain to a fine merchant ship, sailing the deep dark sea. Setting to ports for trade and various adventures, compiling reports for the Admiralty back home in order to get some extra coin and fuel for my ship. My fondest dream is to retire to a life of plenty, with precious heirlooms to gift to my scion, may he take after me and continue sailing.
Ah, the tales of the sea. I have dropped anchor at a giant mushroom, set foot at a place where everyone was masked and gone to a winter port where riddles abound. I have hunted jellyfish, colossal crabs, massive moths and strange ironbound sharks. Maybe I will someday compose a song of the sea with all my tales and experiences.

Nope, nothing so mundane :)

Everything I wrote down I had done, cloaked in purple prose.
