OK here is my next question:

The protagonist is a brother and he has a SISTER.

Possibly: Once you finished up your Dad's work, your first major job; a very valuable crystal was stolen. After investigating the scene you managed to track down the thieves & recover the crystal. Unfortunately though they managed to escape.

HINT: it's not -snip-

Whoever gets this can immediately start the next question.
