Ghorpm: No. Please note that what I've describe is not something that may happen during the game (as it may happen in MoO) but something that will happen for sure. The game starts like that (near extinction) and consequences of conquering another planet depends also (not only!) on what you've found there.

omega64: Alpha Centauri?
I don't think you conquer planets (plural!) nor the humanity faces extinction there. I believe we may assume that people still live on Earth after sending a small group to colonize a distant planet.

So no, it's not that :)

Just a guess, never actually played it. :P
Nobody? A hint: it's available here
No idea, but I'll ask a question: Is it a strategy? If no, then what's the genre? If yes, then what kind of strategy? Turn based, real time, tactical, ...?

Definitely RTS with a nice addition of 4X in this sense that it's not mission-based RTS. You see the whole map right from the beginning of the game and it's up to you how you expand.
EDIT: I'm still at the beginning but it's an awesome game!

Galactic Civilizations.

LinustheBold: Galactic Civilizations.
I've never played it so do correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's TBS game while mine is definitely RTS. Furthermore I don't think that Galactic Civilizations begins with human race facing an extinction (I can be wrong here too)

Still no...

HINT: It's advertised as David vs Goliath type of gameplay ;)

Doh! That's what I get for jumping in distracted at world and just browsing the clues.

But actually, it's AI War, isn't it. I've only ever played a couple of minutes of that, and it was confusing as all hell. Not always a bad thing, but my brain wasn't ready for it without some preparation.

The above came out as an edit, not a normal post, so it may not get properly seen. Trying again:

Yep, it's AI War. I've been playing for several days and I love it. True, it's very confusing, especially at the beginning but it's a true masterpiece! I'm still discovering new features, artifacts and way to play it more efficiently!

I've heard such good things about it, so I'm likely to dip back in - but sometimes I need some elbow room in real life if I'm going to have to figure out a whole new game experience. All games are different, of course, but they mostly follow the same rules, and this one left me looking at this screen, baffled, wondering what was going on.

Certainly not a bad thing. Just daunting, when I'm not braced for it.

New game clue:

My horoscope in today's Times Picayune says I need to get out of town. The museum is closed, and so is the drug store. I'm a little short on cash, but maybe something will come up.

One of my favorite games but I'll let others guess it ;)

Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers
Can't remember which day that is though. :)
