joppo: We met a nice woman at the end of the battle and she invited us to stay at her house in the closest city while we're there. It's not a bad offer, especially because she also owns a store where she buys loot and sells equipment. I bought a slightly better sword and a pair of boots. The lady also helped us by recommending we ask the city's fortuneteller for any clues.

But first she insisted we dine with her. The food tasted great, but my sister was much happier before knowing what were the ingredients of our meal...
Just from the vague-ass description of everything in this post, guessing Phantasy Star Online 2: Episode Whatever.
Your sister is obviously the players MAG, which grows in power/stats by "eating" various items.

Not Phantasy Star, of any kind. I don't think that is an ARPG? I don't know. Did you consider the other hints I posted after that? I think they'd steer you to other games. And it is purely offline.

The game I'm hinting at is not long. How long to beat estimates almost 19 hours. It isn't big either: less then 450MB installer. Audio is japanese and text is english.

New hint this afternoon if not guessed until then.
