Sanjuro: Hmmm, the hint seems to have proved to be too... elusive? illusive? Unclear.

We don't get to see the face of "royalty" (who is indeed of royal family, but actually not in line for the throne), the chess-player is responsible for deaths of thousands of people (and the fact that billions others survived), the marine sometimes speaks to holograms... what else? Oh, and that drunkard is a good tech specialist.
What kind of a shooter game has a chess player on their team? This is interesting. Unless they just like to play chess but it's not their main profession.

I never said it was. She used to be a chess player, then she was a strategist and an operation she planned cost thousands of people their lives... but may have saved humanity.
Anyway, you don't get to play as her, she's just part of the team and your character can talk to her if he feels like it or needs some aid.
EDIT: just re-checked, it was not thousands, but "merely" hundreds dead.

I have no idea, I'm just waiting to learn what's the game. I probably won't play it but maybe. It depends on what it is, but the description does sound interesting (a bit less now unless you only play as one character and it's not a team-based game where the chess player is sort of a guide/mentor character etc). :)

Feel free to ask any additional questions. :-)

Most of the weapons have an alternative firing mode.

You play as an ex-marine, others are just there, on the ship, travelling with you. You can talk to them, sometimes they may ask you to do some minor things, but no, it's nowhere near a team-based game... well, not THIS game anyway.

I don't know this game and don't want to google it, so I'll leave it up to someone who has heard of it to guess it, or until you'll decide to give it away. :)

Yeah, you probably know the previous game of the series better. Or even more likely, its multiplayer-oriented "side series". ;-)
All right, here's another hint: one of the corporations that opposes you is famous for regularly holding a certain tournament.
Unreal?

ZFR: Unreal?
Close, very close. :-)
I had dismissed this game as not relevant to me but all these hints piqued my interest. I might get the single-player games too after all as the story sounds interesting when Sanjuro retells it.

Unreal 2: The Awakening has you play as John Dalton, an ex-marine who is tasked with collecting pieces of an ancient alien artifact. The crew of his ship includes Aida, a pro-chess player and a tactical genus, Ne'Ban, a hexcore prince and a very good pilot and Isaak Borisov, a skilled technician who still can't get over a sense of guilt over a certain mistake he's made once.

In other words, yes, that's the game. Your turn. :-)

Well, to be fair, the game is way more action-oriented than plot-oriented, but it certainly has more of a story (told through the game events, not implied or given through some text) than Unreal Tournament or Unreal 1. There are dialogues, stuff happens before your eyes, you even get to choose what you say a couple of times. The story and the way it's told is kinda decent, if you don't expect too much from it (the narrative is certainly no Half-Life level or somesuch). Near the end (right before the final mission) there's a twist (remember that hint about servants? :-) ) and a couple of big events that add to the dramatic atmosphere.
But I'd say setting people on fire or shooting them with spider gun (which shoots actual small spiders that crawl all over your opponents) to make them freak out and randomly run in circles screaming is probably more memorable. :-)

Oh, and keep in mind, I do have that trickster part of my personality which greatly enjoys surprising people, making them see things in new light, sometimes leading them to believe something and, well, tricking them (see the tone in which I described StarCraft on my previous round - I tried to make it sound almost like a game from F.E.A.R. or Resident Evil series). :-P

Cool. :)

I figured that if ZFR wanted to go on, he would, since it's been 2 days. I will post something shortly.
Nibble nibble carrot bang bang gun!

I might look like a zombie, but chicks like me. Maybe because I'm faster than Sonic. Hey time for some jazz!

Hope it's not too hard..
