Ghorpm: A few more hints: the protagonist knows English, French and Russian. The aforementioned journey is slightly less then 3000 km long.

Novotnus: Now it sounds a bit like Secret Files 2 (if by 'doctor' you mean PhD, not MD) but that masterpiece part doesn't fit :)
EDIT. No, it's not this. Max's first language is German :)
Thinking about it... I guess my protagonist knows German too. But he doesn't speak Serbian and I bet he wished he would.

Yes, that's the one :)
It wasn't supposed to be like this. Because of my background they sent me to deal with this crook and organize some supplies for them or whatever. But because some old grudges that crook doesn't even want to let me in! Well, I'll have to find another way in... That pump looks interesting... Maybe if I break it someone will go out to check?
And then, well, I guess some heavy guns diplomacy needs to happen...

Can you describe the crook? What is it that he does that make him a "crook"?
A 'Hitman' game?

He's not a human nor a humanoid. He's a baron of criminal underworld but details of his criminal activities are not described apart from his rivality with another underworld baron.

Fever_Discordia: A 'Hitman' game?
It's not.

What's the genre of the game? An action game with adventuring parts? Or better yet, an adventure with action?

Vangers?
- Only game I can think of that potentially has non-humanoid crime bosses in it!

Unless it's Star Wars and the crime boss is a Hutt, I guess..

Knowing my luck, it's a point and click adventure.

FPS with minimal RPG elements.

EYE: Divine Cybermancy?

Fever_Discordia: EYE: Divine Cybermancy?
Neither EYE nor Vangers.
But not all your guesses are wrong :)

Oh!
Something in the SW: Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series then?

Wouldn't answering this make the riddle too easy? :)
