I love controllers for some games. When it comes to playing FPS though, it's as frustrating to aim as it is trying to suck down a pizza with a straw. It's unsatisfying and frustrating as all hell.

Nothing to do with that, you are clearly "Gamer" enough for me. Although, if you are not a heavy D-pad user your recomendation may not be what some people need. I tend to not trust online reviews blindly for that precise reason. Many years ago, most "internet gurus" on reviews websites stated the eye can´t see more that 60hx/fps, yet I was having much higher scores on CS-GO custom maps running with ~150fps than 60 on a 60Hz display, this was before all the 144Hz craze. Crap I was about to talk about the Cuphead thing but there is enough blood already spilled.
For platform gaming the xbox360 is fine but is not precise, try any competitive fighting game and you get what I mean, sometimes.even navigate in menus takes a little more time than is supposed to. I have yet to try the Xbox one, the "clicky" feel and separate buttons might need some time to get used too. They are somewhat not plug and play on Windows/Linux as well???
I´ve heard good things about the Hori controllers brand but the fighting controller with Xinput doesn´t seem to be available on Europe, last time I checked.

koima57: I have one of the earlier models of 8bitdo SNES 30 Pro and it is quite good, definitely great D-pad coming from the awful 360 and good battery life. Only poor things sticking out so far, the usb cable seem to only work for charging, not for playing with it plugged (not a problem for me though) rumble is a bit weak and there can be bug during updates if plugged along bluetooth usb stick.
It is available online. I would like a cable controller but I´m sure they must have somethig available. Thanks for the sugestion, will check it for sure :D I´ve heard good things about the Hori controllers brand but the fighting controller with Xinput doesn´t seem to be available on Europe, last time I checked.

We're clearly playing different kinds of games. I don't play twitch shooters, online games, or competitive games. (so often I'm fine with 30 fps, as long as it's stable) Windows 10, plugged in the dongle, xbox one controller works.

This one? https://www.bol.com/nl/p/hori-real-arcade-pro-one-kai-fighting-stick-official-licensed-xbox-one-xbox-360-pc/9200000047588619/ Benelux = Europe
Tempting, but I don't know if I want to spend that amount of money when I play fighting games maybe twice a year.

ITT the PC gaming disaster race confuse different control designs and features with their own inadequacy.
People forget if they haven't seriously gamed with a controller then they will be rubbish at it and if the game is crap then it will affect their skill.
I was playing a game with a controller and its aiming was rubbish because the game was treating the joystick as though it had only two aiming movements of fast and slow instead of a precise analog joystick.

Agreed, except for 2 genres. I could see myself using a controller in fighting games and MAYBE racing games (still usually play those on a KB though). But as I rarely play those, I am basically controller illiterate because every other game I've played so far was completely fine/better on KB+M. Be it platformer or 3rd person shooter or any other genre really.

Breja: An RPG? Why would using a controller for those be any good? I can just imagine navigating all the inventory or any even half way complex menu with a controller. No thanks. And it's not like shooting was the only thing that was crap with a controller. A lot of the platforming also was prather frustrating at times, because controlling the camera (so alligning jumps) was also annoyingly imprecise.
I guess a 2D platformer would not have that problem, but it's not like I ever played a 2D platformer that felt in any way problematic to control with a keyboard/keyboard + mouse.
I can only imagine controllers maybe being better for fighting games and flight sims.
Fender_178: I wasn't talking about RPGs llike Diablo or Diablo 2 or even POE for that matter RPGs that would be better with a Keyboard and Mouse. I was talking about more or less like Dragon Warrior/Quest or Final Fantasy or even Persona turn based RPGs that are on consoles for starters. And a the few action RPGs like Secret of Mana, YS, that started off as console titles that found themselves on to newer platforms. I guess a 2D platformer would not have that problem, but it's not like I ever played a 2D platformer that felt in any way problematic to control with a keyboard/keyboard + mouse.

I've been playing with keyboard and mouse most of my life, only 2-3 ago had first experience with controller. I'm quite terrible at using it, but platformers and beat-em-ups feel easier to me with controller. Can't even imagine being able to aim with it reliably though.
My biggest issue is that after playing for too long skin on my thumbs starts peeling or just feels weird.

It's probably 30 years of PC gaming talking but I really do hate using a controller for anything 3D. I have one for 2D platformers and Tetris style stuff, but I try not to use it for anything else. When a game really cries out for a controller... like Dark Souls for example... it annoys me to no end.

I played NES before I got a computer, and the first Playstation concurrently with my 133mhz turbo PC, and I couldn't agree more.
Controllers are worse than keyboard & mouse.
That's not what bothers me though..
What really bothers me is that games today like to release one version of the game on both console AND PC, and hence has to dumb down the user input and gameplay..and is even detrimental to coding, as it has to take the limited console hardware into account.
30fps, quick-time events and the "new" subsection of it (in which I count arkham style fighting or asscreed climbing), wide turning, auto-aim, excessive cinematics, target locking, glued to wall covers, etc, etc.

Sorry, should been more clear:
https://stores.horiusa.com/fighting-commander-for-xbox-one/
I really don't want any kind of stick controller.
I've checked the website and the SN30 Pro+ seem to be good, a bit on the big side though. 8BitDo indeed claim it's possible to use wired. Will probably buy it in future!

Controllers are a must for platformers. And smash.
I also use them for JRPGs because it feels like I'm playing on my consoles again, which was my main gaming platform until recently. Also lets me lean allllll the way back away from the screen.
I like both K/M and controllers.
