There were some bugs introduced in the remaster of Grim Fandango that weren't present in the classic. Most noticeable is the one where, when a character is smoking, it does so right through its skull.

Although I haven't played the remaster yet, I think I actually prefer the original for this reason.

I would say I personally prefer remasters that use the original assets simply because when they use new assets it's almost a different game.

I was just playing Monkey Island Talkie Edition last night and this popped back into my head, because it was such a weird thing to say. You know he has a ponytail in the original version right?

Anyway, like Enebias says it's just that the new art is so badly done. It's the reason the Talkie Edition patch was made.

Well, I purchased the original, boxed (Italian) version of the game, and I even "resurrected" the unreadable CD-ROMs with a bit of "real life" hacking some time ago... So I will definitely play the original GF sometime in the future.

Grim Fandango had a lot of running around and some 'moon logic' issues if the reviews i watched were anything to go by. Also being a Point&Click you eventually get to the point where you click everything on everything until you start progressing.

You might just be better with someone playing it in a perfect cut sequence, as The Movie, where the grind and slow useless crap is removed.

The game's art, sound, puzzles, and dialog still hold up well in either version. The remaster is one of the better ones. Just remember it's an ancient game, and there's no way to make it "un-clunky".

Like the Halo and Monkey island remasters. Though with halo it was literally running 2 engines at the same time and you just switched which one you actually looked at, not sure how the others may work.
