Here's a sneak peek of an upcoming feature for Grid Cartographer: Labels

http://i.imgur.com/TWaAnrB.jpg

I've extended the note tool with an option to create labels that are visible directly on the map.

There's still a bit of work left to do in finishing porting this feature over to Android as well as adding labels to the map image export, but it shouldn't be too much longer before it's ready.

don't know if this has been mentioned but I notice a odd issue with the last version(1.4.1) where if you exit the program by "X-ing" out instead of closing it out by clicking file -> exit the program won't boot up properly the next time you try to start it(found this by accident) and was forced to uninstall and reinstall in order to get to to load up right.

anyway once again, great program and looking forward to being able to place labels on the map will come in handy for Wizardry 4.

That's an odd one that I've not seen it happen and haven't been able to reproduce it just now. When you say it won't boot up properly - do you mean it crashes? also is it consistent?

YAY! That is what I was waiting for!

nah, it just won't start up. the icon is there on the taskbar but you can't open the window at all and when you hover over it to see the window it's just tiny and "greyed out" and stays like that, happens every time I don't exit the program through file->exit.

What OS? If it happens again you can quit the process via Task Manager.

windows 7 and that's what I did when it happened but it would do it everytime I would load it up unless I uninstall and reinstall but as I said it only would do that if I exit by "X-ing" out

Well I'm definitely stumped by this one!!

Please can you try this v1.4.2 beta and see what happens? I would assume the same - but who knows!?. I've yet to spot how this could break using the close button but not the menu... not to sound dismissive - just mystified!

This way at least we'll be on the same page if you get a crash with this version since I've made quite a few changes and it's harder to diagnose 1.4.1 than to bump you up to 1.4.2.

ps. If anyone else wants to try out the beta then it's basically the release candidate minus label image export - call it a GOG exclusive :-)

yeah I'll give it a go and don't feel bad I don't get it either.

Edit: so far no issue

* PRO: Added Close button to the note toolbar as a mouse based alternative to <ESC>
* PRO: Map labels added to export (if View > Labels is enabled).

* ADDED: View minor grid lines toggle.
* ADDED: Click outside of the start / new-map dialog to dismiss it.
* ADDED: 'Eraser' text label on toolbar.

Great. Hopefully this is still the case with the full v1.4.2 !
Having just picked up Wizardy 6,7 & 8 thought I'd pick up a copy of this also. Thanks!
Okay, I have not had any real... extensive time to test all the new features out yet, but what I have used I like. The Notes that show up on the map as a Label is just awesome.

Here is a question though: I use AutoCAD almost every day as well as many items in the Adobe Creative Cloud, like Photoshop and Illustrator, and they all have shortcuts to Pan around the viewing area. Is there a way to implement something similar? Like, instead of me having to select the hand tool, can I just map it to the Middle mouse button, that way I can use it without having to select it?

If you hold either the middle or right mouse button down it'll scroll the view around in any mode.

The hand tool isn't really much use for must people on PC - it's mainly there as a help for people using laptops or graphics tablets, or on the Android version where you only have one type of input. If you have a standard desktop computer with 2 or 3 button mouse you can pretty much ignore the hand tool.

Apologies for the misleading UI :-)

edit: You can also free up toolbar space by using View > Toolbar > Zoom and Scroll to hide those bits.

Oh... Yeah, I see that... Now... Okay, what about this one. Mouse wheel zoom?

Currently mouse wheel is for floor selection, but I'll make a note to add a switch to turn it into a zoom. I think I've tried to zoom that way myself on occasion :-)
