HGiles: That is awesome news.

Will you have Stylus support? If so, which ones - capacitive or pressure? I would love to be able to draw maps easily on my tablet with a stylus.
I've not actually looked into specific support for a stylus yet but you've piqued my interest and I had to check with the S-Pen on my Note 10.1. Answer: Yes! The touch screen code I have already seems to work just fine :-)

I will look into fixing or supporting other forms of stylus after release but I imagine most of them just simulate a touch as far as the app is concerned and since Grid Cartographer's needs are simple it should Just Work TM. Famous last words, hehe.

The S-Pen is a pressure-sensitive stylus that's specific for Samsung tablets, so that may or may not mean anything for the rest of the Android world. It's a good sign though. :D

Next up - how will you be handling monetization (assuming you've gotten that far). I don't use apps that include ads. Will you be putting a freely-downloadable version up as a DRM-free demo (I'm assuming a more feature-rich version in the various stores)?

My current plans are to release a free edition and a paid pro edition, equivalent to the way the PC version is split. I don't intend to include any advertising or in-app purchases in either of them. Basically I'm treating this in the same way as the PC version. A piece of free software that, if you like, you can pay to upgrade and get some cool new features to boot. Simple as that really :-)
This is a request for help from users with keyboard layouts I don't currently support. Currently the supported list is quite short and covers US / UK QWERTY and German T1 QWERTZ layouts. I'd like to extend that, if there's a demand for it.

If you'd like to help add support for your country's keyboard layout then please get in touch via PMs here, or my Contact Page. It will involve me working with you, asking questions about what keys do and don't work. Having a Pro edition will help greatly since it's the note system that's mainly affected.

Note: Grid Cartographer's font limits this to European languages for the time being - I'm not sure Asian languages will be possible until I rework font support. Apologies to my many Korean customers.
Grid Cartographer v1.3.9 released at the usual place: http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/gridcart/

This is primarily a collection of bug fixes for the PC version I've discovered while making the code more portable.
I keep forgetting to get this, then this thread popped up towards the top again. Fortune!

Cool, hope you like it :-)
If, like me, you've just picked up Anvil of Dawn then you might also like to give Grid Cartographer a try when it comes to creating maps for it: http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/gridcart/

I've not played much of it yet, so if there are any tiles or markers, etc. that I could add to Grid Cartographer to make mapping easier then please let me know!

Do you have any plans to drop price of Grid cartographer for sale promotion ?
I am playing Wizardry 6 since i bought this game here few days ago
I can not handle Wizardry 6 very well because of this game is my first dungeon RPG
Of course I have played Legend of Grimrock, but It was very easy showing maps
and I don't think LOG is not real dungeon RPG

I am playing Wizardry 6 with using free version of grid cartographer
It was more easier than playng this game at first
But free version is too restricted to draw map freely
I want to rotate and ctrl+c, ctrl+v, change map style

If you have a plan of sales promotion, I will wait for it
I can not afford to pay $5 because I can not be sure that I use grid cartographer later since finish this game
I wish enjoy this game myself for proceeding next series

thanks

Hi, thanks for trying out Grid Cartographer. I'm happy to hear that it's making Wizardry 6 easier for you to play.

To answer your question, I have no plans to put it on sale in the foreseeable future.

HiddenAsbestos: To celebrate I made an RPG - as in Really Primitive Game - to show off using Grid Cartographer's XML export feature.

You should put a link to this on your home page.

This is amazing to me. I would love the ability to use this app on both my PC and Tablet. I have a 10 Inch Transformer Prime, and could not be any more excited for this.

Do you have a price set for the Paid Android version, or a release date?

EDIT: I just purchased the PC Pro edition and I am amazed at the work you have put into this. I am now looking for some cyberpunk style games to play using the VDU Theme. Something like Shadowrun. And also, would it be possible to eventually implement a mapping style for Text Adventures, like Zork?

Thanks, I'm glad you're looking forward to it :-)

I don't have an exact final price yet but I'm hovering around the $5 mark again since that seems like a fair price for the customer vs. the effort it has taken to develop / rewrite the thing for Android. Bear in mind that it's required a lot of additional work to develop a touch compatible version and you're also getting the benefit of over 40 updates since v1.0 of the PC version.

In terms of release date, I'm not sure when it'll be since a number of things have taken longer than expected (others have gone faster).

The current state of the project is that the core of the editing and menu systems are working now, you can draw and change brush and cut and paste and move things around, etc. The more Android specific stuff is what's left - so I'm working on finishing off a file selector for opening and saving files; then it's interacting with the soft keyboard to get notes working and then there's a small pile of little tasks to do (e.g. port the CGA theme dissolve effect) and then a lot of testing and fixing and further streamlining for a better touch based experience.

Not to put too much pressure on my self I would measure the time left in weeks.

Thank you :-) Captive is the one I had in mind when I added it. There aren't enough sci-fi RPGs like this which is a shame :-)

What did you have in mind for a Zork theme?

Well, I was more wondering if there was a way to map the games more than a theme, because to me the Parchment theme is great. But

And I would gladly pay $5 for the Android version, in addition to the $5 I already paid for the PC version. I can't wait for the first release to be published. Need a Beta Tester? :)

EDIT: I have a suggestion. I won't guess at the difficulty or size of said guess, but is it possible to make it so that instead of just tellin you that you changed the brush, to indicate what you have selected? In words I mean, so like, "Floor (No Walls) Selected", "Floor (With Walls) Selected" or "Treasure Selected" or whatever?

Just bought this and gave it a small run with M&M1. I can see that it will be immensely useful for my old rpgs. However there is one thing that I could still do more easily on paper and that is rotating the map. If I can rotate the map into the direction that I am facing in the game it makes it a lot easier for me to navigate and fill in new sections of the map. is this a feature that we could possible get in a future version?
