And one of my favorites, the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) classic Shining in the Darkness. And Menzoberranzan. And Wizards and Warriors. Besides the others mentioned I missed, there are these, and I'm sure more I missed besides. I never realized I was such a fan of 1st person grid-based dungeon crawlers... I always thought I was more a fan of isometric games and 3/4 style games like BG and Divinty:OS.

Now that you make me think about it, it's really a shame that the genre is so unpopular.
Even the brilliant Legend of Grimrock 2 (imo the best dungeon crawler ever made) had awful sales numbers, so I suspect we won't see a game of such quality anytime soon. So sad. :(

I would be all over Grimrocks if they had free movement. Am i the only one that likes the free movement of M&M 7, 8, and 9 more than the grid based stuff? It just seems to me like they are reintroducing a needless limitation just because "retro".

As much as grid movement was popular, I'm going to admit I'd be more into a more freeflow crawler that's more about exploring than click this monster 80 times to kill it.

I guess I could mention Mordor: The depths of Denjol, but it's a crufty old game that works weirdly, and the rights holder is charging nearly 20 dollars for a game that basically doesn't work anymore. (The last effort had was to update it so it worked better with Windows XP)

The best of the Japanese grid-crawlers tend to be found on the PSP Vita and the (3)DS. Strange Journey and the Etrian series, for example.

Well, I believe React OS's userland libraries are based off WINE, so programs that run on one have a good chance of running on the other, provided they don't need kernel support either way.

Well, it isn't quite working. Scrollbars don't exist, and the dungeon can't be navigated.
