zeffyr: Can you tell me what your specs are? I'm a little bit worried, as CanYouRunIt site says that I won't be able to run it...

Fenixp: CPU: Intel i5
GPU: Nvidia GTX 560ti 1GB
RAM: 4 gigs DDR3
for the significant ones
And it runs smoothly in what resolution/detail level?

I'm on i7-3630QM @ 2.4GHz, 8GB RAM and GeForce 650M @ 2GB and the site doesn't give me a chance. I wish they're wrong! :-)

Everything maxed out, 1080p. I think I knocked AA or something down a notch. I got steady 40FPS and more. Now I wish I didn't delete it so I could do a bit more tests for you, oh well.

Unless pirates optimized the game while Petroglyph wasn't looking, I'd say you're fine :-P In fact I just checked can you run it as well - it claims that I can't because I have Windows 8 64bit as opposed to Windows 7 32bit.

OK, you calmed me down :-) Much thanks for the info!
avatar
zeffyr: Oh my! Literally I can't resist the temptation of buying it as a boxed copy, so not to support evil Steam. Argh, what are you doing to me! :-)

GOG, help!
avatar
Fenixp: Seriously tho, if you aim to avoid Steam, do check if the boxed copy is not just a Steam key.
I got confirmation from the store that it will require Steam activation. Perplexity! :-S

Fenixp: What I got out of the experience was... Well... It's the next command and conquer we've all been waiting for, refined and redesigned in such a way that makes sense in modern RTS environment. Soundtrack is absolutely phenomental, cinematics are pretty much Blizzard-quality stuff, and the game just plays so well - unit AI is even clever enough to properly prioritize targets and everything. There are some mechanics I've not yet seen implemented in this manner in an RTS, and there are some refinments I want to see in every future RTS ever released. Oh, and the optimization is fantastic - it ran great on my 4 years old system, just loading screens took a bit too long. At the end of the day, the moment my paycheck arrives, I'm heading over to the dev's webpage and buying myself the game for 40 euro.
Fenixp (or anyone else who played this), did you have problems with clicking like this review suggests?
http://steamcommunity.com/id/jingobingonfinky/recommended/290790/

I'm thinking of buying this but will wait till I get a new PC that can run this (getting one in March or April). Still that click thing sounds like a problem if it won't get addressed. I'll probably wait till I know for sure whether GOG gets it or not anyway.

Didn't have that issue playing pirated version, I'll get back to you in 3 days when I purchase the full thing.
Have you been writing to Petroglyph about possibility of GOG release? If so, did you get a reply?

All right, played for a few days, no click registering issues, a lot of gameplay awesome goodness.

Thanks.

I'll wait a bit to see what are the chances of it appearing on GOG, but I expect to buy it pretty soon.
OK, so I got a reply from Ted Morris, Executive Producer at Petroglyph about possibility of GOG release:

"I'm really not sure what our publisher has in mind for GOG. Most of the
games there are a few years old, so I suspect it may be a while before Grey
Goo appears on the store there. We are definitely trying to make it broadly
available both here in the United States and in other territories with a
variety of distributors (and Amazon.com). So, if you can't get it through
Steam, there are likely other ways to get it.

Thanks for your interest and support!

-T"

I have a feeling that he's not that familiar with GOG and that not only old games are being released here. I'm composing a reply and I'd like to present examples of new an high-budget games recently released on GOG - can you help me, so I don't miss any of them? :-)

zeffyr: snip
Not exactly super high budget, but there is the upcoming Pillars of Eternity and Witcher 3. There is also Age of Wonders 3, Blackguards 1+2, Divinity: Original Sin, Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, Wasteland 2. Those are games that were released day 1 or close to day 1 here on GOG.

The game is quite heavily tied to Steamworks. It does work offline just fine, but in all honesty, I don't think the publisher is going to be interested in releasing without online multiplayer and ladder.

We have to believe! :)

I got a second reply from Ted Morris from Petroglyph Games, about the Grey Goo release on GOG:

'We are definitely looking into it, but it might still be a while. Stay tuned.'

Yay! :-)

Yay! I guess Galaxy changed their mind. Which is great, especially now since the campaign expansion has been released.
