Or are we looking at 100 files each with 5 lines of code in it? Or are we looking at heavy wizardry and black art, covered with black magic and cargo cult? Or is the whole thing black art? It would help to know.
I said near to impossible. And have no clue how bad it looks to be honest, I imagine must be quite challenging at this state ; ) Sometimes its better to burn everything and start from the ground up..

mike_cesara: Tauto, you weren't the only one affected! In fact, many of use were, myself including. Sadly some took advantage of this and started doing the same. You chose some strange way to express your feelings and for some reason following this path to this day. Well, in a some way your account is the perfect example how things went out of hands here..

The integration is why they can't just do that. They have to worry about compatibility with the old DB, the current user accounts, etc. Honestly, i think they need to find a way to dissect it and de-obfuscate the code without breaking it. In other words, find the code that doesn't do anything and delete it. Find bug fixes, and move them to where they belong. It's a painstaking process, but i've had to do this to write drivers for some of my hardware, since i wanted to get rid of the "garbage startup" code that did literally nothing other than weight my processor down.

Nothing magical about them. It's basically just testing automation. Create 100 accounts, create an array of their login cookies, iterate through it sending a new http request each time, click the downvote then the report buttons. Post gone. It's essentially what ToxicTom did, but automated instead of manual.

And a "counter" would have to be written by GOG and deployed on the server. Or rather the existing functionality would have to be fixed, but they aren't interested in doing that.

There was already a lot of discussion in this thread about moderation and such, some I agree some I disagree with but personally what I expect from moderation is as always :

That the moderator(s) try to remain as neutral as possible, that they judge based on the rules and facts and don't let their own personal opinions (be it political or otherwise) color their decision.

Also to have clear rules of what constitute "hate speech" , harassment & co... it's 100% fine that abuse is punished, but things have to be clear and not depends of the moderator mood of the day or whenever he/she agree/don't agree with the poster opinions.

Those two things seems like common sense for me but in today current climate it sadly often more the exception rather than the rule...

Also something important IMHO is the moderator is able to keep his/her cool; it's possibly the hardest as it's a job that will definitely test your patience (if not you faith in humanity), but IMHO there is nothing worse than a moderator that starts lashing out, make snarky remarks or ban left or right because he or she had a bad day.

So in short...

tl;dr While I think that moderation is a good thing I would hate for this forum to turn into a monstrosity like a certain other gaming forum whose name starts with "Res..." and ends with "...era" :)

Actually, such a thing wouldn't be too hard to do. I assume the login cookies are stored in a DBMS system. Limit the amount of cookies per IP to about 5. It could run the check after time a cookie is created for that IP. Meanwhile, to ensure everything goes well, clear the cookies and make everyone login again. You could schedule it for a certain day so everyone and their gogrepo scripts and such can all be ready and prepared for having to login again.

Also, have some sort of purchase requirement for any account older than so many days. If an account is 2 years old, there's no actual purchases on it, and all it does is come in and downvote and report posts, you know it's an alt.

Both measures would greatly hinder this whole thing. Also check how many accounts are registered per 1 email. Make them have a bunch of different and valid emails, too. The more of a pain in the bottom it is, the more petty they have to b to commit to it, which further justifies banning when caught.

But, no, i use the word "magic" in irony. I'm an assembly coder, i don't believe in real magic in machines.

I have never once seen this sort of condescending "good advice" have an effect other than the opposite. So you are either incredibly, otherworldly naive, or trolling him in a somewhat refined way while allowing yourself an escape via plausible deniability.

I think what he's trying to say is "we have a new mod, and you should take the opportunity to explain your side clearly, before your actions and words betray you."

I explained the same thing in private chat. There is some reasonable cynicism due to GOG's past with mods (not this mod), but we should give this one a chance, instead of writing him off so quickly. The elementary bully's tactic is to hit you and run away, then when you're chasing the bully, the bully yells for the teacher, and the teacher sees you getting your vengeance on the bully, not the bully hitting you first. You can say "but he hit me first!" but the teacher can't trust that, since the teacher didn't see it himself/herself.
