Tauto: I see by the reaction to my questions that I'm in the baddie section already so bring it on but it had better be unbiased.

Of course and I am trying but at least have the respect to answer direct questions when asked.

Tauto: You should speak.Don't try and fool the new member with cra* like this.

SirPrimalform: That was a genuine olive branch but sure, you can carry on trolling if you want.
Bulldust! It's only because the new moderator is moderating.

Thankyou:)

mike_cesara: So.. What happened with for those who like to discuss things that gog likes to delete thread? Was it deleted by G-Team or massively reported as spam? I would like to hear official clarification from The G-Team member, not from random users.
avatar
Linko90: The topic had seemingly run its course and was becoming a place where people were simply arguing within. As you can imagine, this isn't exactly relevant or good for the forums. With that in mind, it was deleted.
I was hoping you would tell everyone to either stick on topic or calm down before just removing it. Now noone is the wiser and it WILL happen again. Kinda like erasing history and still expect everyone to learn from it.

EDIT: Just saw your reason for it now... thanks!

Also, what are GOG's official thoughts on the rep system?

There are plenty of nasty posts from Tauto surviving in other threads. I don't think it's possible to downvote something into deletion, I think that only happens if people misreport things as spam (which is apparently against the rules but it sound a bit hard to enforce if the forum autodeletes things).

It's up to you how you want to behave, I don't care.

I've had threads and posts deleted in a matter of seconds, your theory is incorrect.

Then someone is maybe running a bot, but I'm still pretty certain low rating alone doesn't get things deleted. It happening within seconds doesn't disprove anything I said, it's only one extra click to report something as spam.

As said above, it's difficult for Tauto because even his normal threads get deleted by users. Not mods, just normal users who trigger the automatic "n 'Report as spam' causes automatic post deletion".

I dislike Tauto as much as the next guy, but this has got to stop. The fact that a post gets automatically deleted, without any mod intervention, if enough people report it as spam is a serious issue. It essentially means that a group of people, or someone with a fairly easy to write script, can essentially delete any post. And this is not just a hypothetical problem; it has already happened. For example in our last forum mafia game:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/secret_hitler_1_legend_of_the_cows/post53

In addition to that, there should be a standard "Ignore" feature, which is pretty much available on any forum without having to resort to third party scripts.

In full agreement there.

Yes, simple downposting doesn't delete a post. You have to click "Report as spam" as well. This doesn't change the fact that it's a serious issue. Forget Tauto, it's the fact that anyone can delelte any post that is scary.

Well what's your theory? A coordinated team tracking your every post and downvoting it in seconds? To me, one person with a vendetta and a scipt is much more likely.

Correct. It is possible to delete other users' threads and posts. It is also possible to automate doing so. After my threads were subjected to such treatment I wrote and published the source code to a proof of concept piece of software that did just that. At that time (abut 14 months ago) everyone was fine with threads and posts being deleted, so nobody cared, not even GOG. I think that post of mine is still up on the forum.

At this point it's a bit outdated because it's using Phantom, which is currently deprecated, but the same thing can easily be done with headless Chrome as an automation tool, and will in fact work even better.

To be fair, I don't believe anyone is actively using such a tool, but there is nothing at all on this forum to protect users from it. The fix would be very simple — just removing the "Report as Spam" button, or at least removing the automatic deletion component.

It's called ABUSE but the new moderator will not answer my question about it.Must be too hard.

Yeah. Really the report as spam thing should just flag something up for a blue to review. That way things wouldn't get deleted for no reason, and misuse of the report button could actually be seen and reprimanded if necessary.

I think you hit gold here... We're all "gamer colleagues" here in a way (well except for the obvious trolls). I think this is a really fitting metaphor.
avatar
mike_cesara: Thank you for the clarification Linko90! : )
Usually threads like that one are locked, which seems less confusing.
avatar
Linko90: The reason for the delete rather than a lock then delete was purely down to this very thread.

In the future, if a multiple page thread is heading towards deletion, it will be locked and a reason stated. Then it will be deleted. As for today, given the content of this thread, I feel like the reason for the deletion is quite clear :)

Hope this clears things up!
Indeed, this clears things up.
I can imagine, all of this might be a lot for the very first day, but things can only go up now!

Tension grows! ; )
