Wanted to put some funds onto my account from card, but noticed that form didnt load. Opened umatrix settings to see which requests are mandatory now for this page... only to find out that it requires to enable connection to google.com (pay.google.com in particular).

So, my question is - is google pay indeed a new gog's payment processor? (rip paranoids) Coz I dont remember reading about it

Looks like it's adyen, who in turn use Google Pay? Ugh.

What difference does it make if it is?

What is a better option?

I only care that GOG gets my payment and I get the game.

Well, as the post implies, there are people who are vehemently anti-google.

funniest thing is that before (but after adyen became gog's payment processor) everything worked by their own, without google getting involved. Wonder what caused that change.

yeah. There are not many, but I remember some guys who even left this storefront when gog changed their eula, back when gogmixes were alive and first iteration of galaxy was a fresh thing (had something to do with lines about ability to share information with third party business partners, if Im not mistaken). I wonder what will happen now, considering google being a company that built its business around collecting people's data

I think they changed things back then, it broke stuff, and they rolled things back. Now we're using new stuff again I guess because I had to whitelist adyen and google domains..

If data protection laws had been made or enforced properly it should have whacked these schemes before they became an issue.

Ok, but then I consider Apple as even a worse company, yet I would not really care if GOG used ApplePay payment services or something to process the payments.

What difference does it make if the OP wants to know or not?

What is so wrong with wanting to be kept up to date about such fundamental changes to payment handling?

Just because you don't care doesn't mean other people shouldn't be interested.
didnt read about it in past, but I've indeed noticed loads of unnecessary requests on some gog's pages (still less than on steam tho).

For example, this thread's page not only tries to load some google's scripts, but also twitter's and facebook's (see the attachment)

Interesting, this. Granted, I pay with Paypal. so whatever. Still, I didn't even know Google had a payment service for websites...

You can't use Paypal now without allowing the braintreegateway.com domain (blocking it will give you a "Service Unavailable" message when selecting Paypal) so you have another third party tracker there.

The biggest complaint I would raise about this is that it is now compulsory to submit to Google tracking in order to pay (directly) by credit card. Previous occurrences (like the use of Google Analytics, Facebook and Twitter links) could be blocked by knowledgeable users, courtesy of browser plugins like Privacy Badger or uBlock.
Eww... Eww... Eww... Google Eww... FTS
As uBlock etc. are quite popular, it would be interesting to know if the bounce rate for the checkout has increased (people opening the page and not completing the purchase for whatever reason).

I too just found out that checkout requires access to pay.google.com when the credit card entry form would not open. GOG just lost a sale. If GOG does not remove google access requirement from the checkout page, I will NOT be buying anything here any more. That goes for cyberpunk 2077 also.

Given the current state of GOG, I probably will not bother contacting support. Maybe it is time to unsubscribe and just write off GOG.
