drachehexe: Not a bug. If you look at the target for the game's icon it specifically directs it to the Galaxy client and not the game's .exe. This is for The Witcher 3, perhaps it's different for other games.
If you simply informed us at the beginning that the game in question was The Witcher 3 then we would have told you that the default shortcut does launch Galaxy automatically but you can play the game without the client by running it via: <installation directory>\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\witcher3

Now for this particular game GOG and CDPR did by default make everyone run it through Galaxy which I agree is not cool but they were blinded by their over zealousness to market the hell out of their client which isn't a good excuse but thats how it is. However you can definitely play the game without Galaxy from the main executable file in the game directory as highlighted above.

As I said before: Create your own shortcut on your desktop. Don`t use the one Galaxy created for you.

Example: The Witcher exe-file is located here (by default) : C:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64\witcher3.exe.
Right-click the exe and create your shortcut on your desktop. Start the game without Galaxy although it was installed with Galaxy. It is the same for other games.

Marioface5: Nope, games don't require Galaxy to run even if they were installed with it. Not sure where you got your information from, but it's incorrect.
avatar
drachehexe: Because if I click on the games icon the client starts up and then I have to click play within the client to get the game to run. How is that "not requiring the client"?
I have a few games installed with galaxy, and I never had this issue. Which of your games does this?

EDIT : TW3? OK, don't have this one, so I can't comment.

Hah, total marketing BS. I knew it.

Well duh. I already fixed even before I started this thread. My point is WHY must I do this. Why is GOG forcing this on me. Why are they deliberately inconveniencing me?

Turns out it's just marketing BS. Typical.

Perhaps GOG thinks that if you are using Galaxy to download and install your games you want to use it to start and play your games too.

drachehexe: Regardless, I already fixed. My point is I shouldn't have to fix it. If GOG is so interested in DRM free then their client should support total non interference by default. Instead they make it default that the Galaxy is always in your system tray and that the default shortcut with an installation fires up the client before you can fire up the game. They punish you by making you have to dig through the game's folders and find the buried .exe file to make a shortcut yourself if you want to avoid the client.
While I agree that the default shortcut starting the client is annoying, it doesn't remotely qualify as DRM.

So, in other words, you already knew the game didn't require Galaxy when you posted the OP making the claim it does require it...

Doesn't that make you out to be a liar?

0Grapher: I'd like to apologize for the rude comments here. :)
Why? They match the tone of the OP. If you are wrong in a dickish way then people will correct you in a dickish way.

Could you do me a favor? When you get a second, could you post a pic of the gun being held to your head? :P

Yeah, right. Nice attempt to save face. You know what would have worked even better? "Oh, so I was wrong and overreacted. Sorry guys, I'll try to be more level headed in the future."

Um, no. Why would I post the thread if I already knew?

Um, yeah, not trying to save face. Glad you assume that I think you're important enough to care about.

GOG is deprecating their old downloader option and trying to push everyone into Galaxy. There is definitely a fraction of Galaxy users who use the client as a downloader replacement.

Good. Never once got Witcher 2 to work through that. Always gave me corrupt files. Maybe I can play it now with Galaxy, but why bother when 3 is out now?

Yeah, but these people would use the backup-feature of Galaxy to get the install files (the same files which you get with your browser or the GOG Downloader). And why is it a problem for you to create your own shortcut on desktop?
