Heading for the finish line – 80% off.

Haven't gotten behind the wheel of this legendary racer just yet? Be speedy – because Race Driver: GRID will be leaving our catalog on December 31, 2016.

Considered one of the most timeless, refined moderns racers – we're sad to see it go, but you can still grab the game now at 80% off, all the way up until December 31, 10:59 PM UTC.

Vrrrrooom, vrrrrooom.

A brief trip down memory lane, this is how GRID was first introduced to GOG.com:
Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!

Vrrrrooom! If you like fast cars, tight turns, and pulse-pounding races, then today's release is sure to please: Race Driver: GRID--known in the US simply as GRiD--screeches over the finish line!

In GRID, you're a driver with dreams of going big: you start out driving in others' cars for money, but soon enough you'll start your own team, picking the races you want to compete in, buying the cars and equipment that you need to get the advantage over the other drivers, and traveling the world to compete. With 43 cars and 3 different regions to compete in--the US, Europe, and Japan--there's plenty to captivate adrenaline junkies. But that's not all: GRID also features an innovative "flashback" system, whereby you can rewind time a few crucial seconds to fix any sloppy driving or mistakes, avoid crashes, and generally gain the needed edge to win. With open wheel racing, demolition derbies, GT racing, there's plenty of variety in gameplay.

Real road courses such as Le Mans are in the game, as well as street circuits such as such as the Detroit and Washington D.C.. There are also a number of fictional tracks, such as street courses in San Francisco, and Milan, and Mount Haruna.

Is that enough to get your pulse pounding? Check out Race Driver: GRID

Vingry: But still, if GOG managed to get this game on its GOG Connect during these last 2 days, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm pretty sure that negotiations leading to a game appearing on GOG Connect take several days or even a few weeks, so probably it's too late for your request to be fulfilled.

Vingry: Why was my first post rated low? I got proof! Wow...
Well... great as GOG Connect is, it has been a controversial topic. One of the reasons is that some users keep demanding their games to be added. They do not see GOG as doing them a favor but rather an obligation. Thus they're perceived as self-entitled, whiners and therefore toxic to the GOG community. The community as a whole shows their disapproval by downrating those posts, of course.

And your first post DOES appear like one of those even if that wasn't your intention. The fact you're a new user doesn't help. You've been here for so little that nobody knows what to expect from you.

tinyE: Regarding licensing, and this is WAY OFF TOPIC but I've been playing NFS recently and this is killing me.

How do these publishers get permission to use actual car brands in a game about illegal street racing? :P This obviously doesn't apply to GRID but games like NFS and Midtown Madness use real cars. Aren't the car makers worried this might look bad for them?

"Yes, we manufacture that very car which just tore through that mall and almost killed 200 people!" :P
You're looking too much into it (obviously) - there's no moral dilemma here, at least not for the involved parties.

Knowing a bit about the marketing and sales crowd, I'd say as long as you display the proper disclaimers when the game starts and pay up the licensing fees, there usually won't be a problem even if you turn their in-game rendered product into the very instrument of road-side Armageddon.

Actually, while it's true that it's being actively pushed GoG AFAIK it's the developers that are the limiting factor (and the fact that noone wants to upset gabe), if it were up to GoG alone you'd basically be able to "import" your steam library.
So, unless you can rally developer swaying numbers, i think its a waste of time petitioning gog for a game to appear on connect.
Heck i'd even be willing to pay a $1 "un-drm" fee per game, but so far my shouts have been unheard...
Humble Bundle recently gave this one as a free gift. Damn it all! I don't mind paying for it, especially at such a sweet deal price; besides, having this on GOG instead of Steam, is always THE, idea/advantage/point.

What pains me is that another GOOD, OLD, Game, is actually leaving GOG, once again... Just what the hell are the copyright holders thinking? They have lost a customer this very day. I will NEVER buy anything elsewhere other than GOG, ever again. Had all games i wanted/needed be here already, i would have a big, long, wishlist to fill! More money for me, then, i guess; as well as more hatred for those who turn against us and treat us like second citizen, third rate and "charity customers".

Time to DELETE PERMANENTLY its shitty, Humble/Steam version, then. Now that i own it here, i have -100 under zero reasons, to keep its duplicate in one of the most shitty services to ever exist.-

What a shame. One of the best racing games on GOG.

AhHa!

Thank you. That makes sense. :D
This game was free from humble bundle so I wonder if it'll get removed from steam as well.

I wish we had more driving games on here.

Highly unlikely. In Steam it is a SERIES.
why is it going to get removed?
Well this is really sad. GOG has so few racing games as it is...

All the more reason why GOG needs to get more futuristic racing games to avoid these car licensing issues.

Any chance we'll see these games in the future?

Bonsewswesa: There really needs to be some clause in these contracts that requires games pulled from sale to remain available on an archive somewhere, like a WayBack machine for games or something, so there's some official way to preserve them outside of personal collections.
There's plenty of people who believe laws should be introduced to preserve abandonware, and generally all digital works of art (including books, movies, songs, paintings etc.) that are no longer available for sale. So something along the lines of "If you can't buy it anywhere, then state libraries have the right to store it and make it available for free, or for a small fee to cover the costs of acquisition, storage, etc.".

This would be much better than a contract, since neither publishers, nor their license providers, would be able to avoid it, other than keep selling the item in question.
@everyone: licensing is the reason why there are nearly zero racing & sport games on gog. today even more so than ten years ago...

as such, unless licensees change their mind, it's highly unlikely gog will ever get a collection of these games... they come & go (like colin mcrae rally, toca, ...)

Actually, licenced car games are completely fine.Publishers just need to get their games here sooner ;),because most of the racing games here have a tendency to leave a year after release *cough*Colin McRae Rally 2005*weezy*.
I wish Codemasters would bring the Dirt franchise here,or at least Dirt 3.Dirt Rally would be king, but i highly doubt that this is gonna happen in our life cycles :D.Cheers

It's never a good thing to see a game leaving GOG but thanks for the heads-up (even though this particular game doesn't interest me).

tinyE: This is real racing, none of that NFS Arcade bullshit.
It is still an arcade game, albeit a good one if you're into that sort of thing. If you want something more challenging and serious than GRID, check out GTR2 (also check out it's total conversion mod called "Power & Glory", for classic cars racing action). Also, don't miss out on what is my favourite trio: NASCAR Racing 2003, Richard Burns Rally, Grand Prix Legends.

I was hoping to eventually see Fuel on GOG. But now that Grid is gone that seems very unlikely. :-/
