Heading for the finish line – 80% off.

Haven't gotten behind the wheel of this legendary racer just yet? Be speedy – because Race Driver: GRID will be leaving our catalog on December 31, 2016.

Considered one of the most timeless, refined moderns racers – we're sad to see it go, but you can still grab the game now at 80% off, all the way up until December 31, 10:59 PM UTC.

Vrrrrooom, vrrrrooom.

A brief trip down memory lane, this is how GRID was first introduced to GOG.com:
Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!

Vrrrrooom! If you like fast cars, tight turns, and pulse-pounding races, then today's release is sure to please: Race Driver: GRID--known in the US simply as GRiD--screeches over the finish line!

In GRID, you're a driver with dreams of going big: you start out driving in others' cars for money, but soon enough you'll start your own team, picking the races you want to compete in, buying the cars and equipment that you need to get the advantage over the other drivers, and traveling the world to compete. With 43 cars and 3 different regions to compete in--the US, Europe, and Japan--there's plenty to captivate adrenaline junkies. But that's not all: GRID also features an innovative "flashback" system, whereby you can rewind time a few crucial seconds to fix any sloppy driving or mistakes, avoid crashes, and generally gain the needed edge to win. With open wheel racing, demolition derbies, GT racing, there's plenty of variety in gameplay.

Real road courses such as Le Mans are in the game, as well as street circuits such as such as the Detroit and Washington D.C.. There are also a number of fictional tracks, such as street courses in San Francisco, and Milan, and Mount Haruna.

Is that enough to get your pulse pounding? Check out Race Driver: GRID
Will this game remain in my library after December 31?
Possibly, yes.
Every game that I have bought, that has since been removed (no longer purchasable), has remained in my library.

Yes.

zgrillo2004: so let me get this straight. Codemasters didnt want to play the car brands the license in a perpetual fashion but instead did it once? they are fucking stupid and cheap.
When you pay for a license to use something, you usually have the option for a perpetual one. Problem is, the perpetual ones cost a lot more than the time limited ones.
Think of it similar to leasing a car instead of buying it, or renting a house instead of buying it. Even if buying it ends up cheaper on the long run, it does depend on you using your purchase for a long time, and it does also require a huge payment up front. So leasing/renting may be financially better for you.
Same thing with licenses for games. A few may be renewed later on, but that does assume the game still sells exceptionally well, which most games do not.
So, Codemasters... since GRID is being removed from sale, how about bringing GRID 2 and GRID Autosport to GOG? The sooner you bring 'em here, the longer you'll have to sell 'em here before their licenses expire, after all.

If we buy codes for gifting or trading, will they still work after the game is removed from sale?
I already got it free from huble bundle. it is not drm-free but it was free so I see no reason to buy it again. And it is not even my type of game

Yes, they should.

It should be.

The Duke Nukem games were removed from GOG and they're still available in my library. Of course the only difference is that there is no link to the store page for obvious reasons.

tinyE: Great game, I own it and I encourage all of you who don't to pick it up. This is real racing, none of that NFS Arcade bullshit.

I DO HOWEVER HAVE ONE ISSUE HERE.

WTF IS THIS!? "Rrrrrrrnnnn! EEEEEEERRrrrrnNNNNNN!"

I don't know what sound effect they were trying to accomplish here but my best bet is an armadillo farting.
I've tried it out a few times and it looks great but I could never manage to get proper control over the car with my racing wheel setup. Tried various configuration tweaks but everything is too sensitive so I basically wipe out non-stop and couldn't get into it. I know this is almost certainly just a matter of finding the proper configuration setup for my Logitech racing wheel mind you. Looking forward to digging into the problem again in the future as the game did look pretty awesome when I played it, I just didn't have the patience to muck around too much with the wheel configuration. :)

PeterPanPirate: Pirates are the current archivist for games, you can still find most of the games GOG removed on pirate sites, you just need to know where the pirates has buried their booty
I know, hell, it's the only way I was able to play 2009's Wolfenstein and how great that game was only made me madder that I couldn't buy it. I just wish there was a legitimate version of it, some centralised archive where your ability to play a game isn't dictated by the amount of seeders.
So that's why GRiD was free a while back on Humble Bundle.

Anyone knows if Steam users will have it in their libraries after its "retirement"? Not much into Steam and I don't know this stuff.

I only tried keyboard and a 360 controller and like you couldn't get a good control of the car either.
With the keyboard steering was maddening with all the key tapping. Car control was much better with the game pad but not enough to go any further with it. I'll have to look into getting a racing wheel setup one day

Yup they will. Same deal as GOG. You get to keep games in your library even if they are no longer sold.

Sure, imagine driving a real car with a keyboard or game controller in order to quickly realize what the best controller is for driving a car. :)
