I've been asking recently about old movies and games that I remember. This forum has been the most helpful when it comes to games. For movies, I' ve had mixed results with movies.stackexchange (where ID movies type questions are no longer supported) and reddit. Given the nostalgia theme of this forum, are movie identification questions supported? Or does anyone know a good forum / site for this? Thank you

Well we have a long running 'guess the movie' thread so I'm sure a thread asking for help remember a film is 100%
I've done it myself a couple of times:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/trying_to_remember_an_old_film
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/trying_to_remember_an_old_cartoon
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/trying_to_remember_an_animated_film
and it's nice because such threads usually result in some lively discussion

If this is the best or even a good place to ask I don't know.

i think it's the best.

I thought I knew movies until I got to this forum. IMDB is shit compared to the GOG regs.

I only wonder because there are forums/subreddits out there specifically to identify things or vague recollections. For instance I used such a subreddit to identify this weird thing that someone left behind in my mom's house : https://imgur.com/48QEira
and I got an answer in, I think something like a minute or two.

So what was that item exactly? :)

Yeah, I too found lively discussions starting on all my previous 3 "ID this game" threads. That's why I asked about movies but didn't want to go directly "can you ask that here?"

A pursehook it turns out. First time I've seen such an item.

I agree, there's quite a lot of people fond of old stuff here

It makes sense; there are quite a lot of old people here. :P
Does WatchMojo have a forum for this? It seems the site itself is under maintenance right now but id does have a forum URL. I've seen weird & freaky stuff in their Top 10s and I think they might be able to help out.

*sigh* Probably being hacked again. They seem to have a history of that happening to them.

Pulling up a google cache of the website doesn;t show one.

They did a mass delete of their forums last month it appears.

Yeah... this and recently IMDB removing Quotes and Character Names type searches doesn't bode well. Good thing I only have a few things to search remaining as I recently found a blog where a guy scanned a truckload of magazines with the TV programs on air in 97-99 in Romania for almost every week. Found quite a number of things on the tip of my tongue.

Hey, you're the DrMike who helped me with https://www.gog.com/forum/general/game_called_blood_of_evil_2_skaratos_revenge by actually e-mailing the guy who made it. I just wanted to say I'm not even mad, that's amazing. I probably would have come off weird/stalkerish by saying "hey I was going through old stuff and I was wondering if you still have this game". I was at a friend and only sporadically checking the thread on my phone so I missed when you said, "do you want me to contact him?"

Yeah, I also read IMDB is killing off its forum https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/feb/06/imdb-shuts-down-message-boards . I see the article is from Feb 2017 not 18, but I did see somewhere that they wiped off the forums. And about the same time, no more character name & quote search.

The IMDB forums were closed last year in February. The best alternative I've seen so far, is moviechat.org, which managed to import most of the IMDB's forum database. There are a few others I've found last year, but I never used them, since they don't seem much compared to moviechat.
themoviedb.org
imdb2.freeforums.net
imdforums
Thanks, I'll definitely check them out. I have a few movies only to find anyway. Tying up loose ends.

I seem to recall one of the index websites taking all of the data that had been contributed by their users and making it private under their copyright and licensing it off for profit.

Wasn't that IMDB? Asking because I can;t find anything right off so it may have been a different website than IMDB.
