GOG.com the website where you can find old games and play them on any operating system but GOG Galaxy now needs Windows 8.

Why oh why?

If you suddenly doesn't have access to the games that you have paid for isn't this suitable for a law suite?

Galaxy is optional. You can still download ('access') the offline installers without the client.

1. I'm pretty sure this thread title is not going to be acceptable.

2. GOG has not been "Good Old Games" for eons.

3. GOG does not guarantee that GOG games will "work on any operating system," so that is an inaccurate mis-statement of the facts by the OP.

4. The purposes of Galaxy are:

1) to track playtime

2) to enable Cloud Saves

3) to enable the ability to earn Achievements

4) And for Galaxy 2.0, to put "all of your games in one place" (but no one actually cares about this point, as all gamers who actually care about having all of their games all in one place, they want that place to be Steam exclusively, and nowhere else).

Fair enough if you don't personally like or want any of those features, OP. But many customers do, so that's why they use Galaxy.

I go to Games, find my game that I have paid for and click install and GOG Galaxy installs it.

There is no fucking option to do it otherwise.

These are things that I don't care about and I store my gamers on my computer and not on someone elses server i.e. THE CLOUD.

You need to go to https://www.gog.com/account via a web browser, the click the game you wish to download and click to expand the line that reads 'DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS' to reveal the game files you need to download and can install WITHOUT Galaxy...

GOG Galaxy had no official support for Windows 7, only Windows 8 and later.

Maybe GOG Galaxy Public Beta had it once, but it was years ago, the statement that "now needs Windows 8" is far from truth.

I'm using GOG Galaxy on Windows 7 for years even though it's not supported.

GOG Galaxy is optional like it was mentioned already, it is best to use to download bigger games, and maybe to rollback to previous game builds. No one forces you to use it anyway.

The last release for Windows 7 was 12 years ago. The extended support has ended nearly four years ago. Barak Obama was due to be elected when Windows 7 released. That's how long ago it's been. With all due kindness and figgy pudding, she's done as it goes.

But if your computer really is that geriatric, why not buy an old off lease machine from Inrego or whatever? Workstations off lease are cheaper than a new box, and they've typically got fairly recent hardware to boot.

GOG doesn't make it blindingly obvious, but it does help to read and navigate the site thoroughly rather than bash at every pretty coloured button you see on the screen.
DOWNLOAD OFFLINE BACKUP GAME INSTALLERS
Download game files only. Useful if you anticipate limited internet access, or want to have a backup. These installers don't support auto-updating, nor on-line features.
