Leroux: How dare you try and extend a helpful hand! No one asked *him* if he wanted a baby sitter... No one asked *him* if he wanted his problems solved for him... ;)

If any of the threads from these last weeks deserved locking it would have been this one. This is pure trolling on the part of the OP, whether intentional or not. No real sense in this "discussion".

Joseph_Grey: Lol, I come to a site title 'get old games here' and the first thing i get is a list of games that are new releases... But hey, im trolling, because Cyberpunk 2077 is an old game... right? LOLOL

Jesus... Have you played Morrowind? Can you even make an objective comparison with Skryim? Bruh, im Morrowind you got a text message describing where to go and what to do... You had to think about how to do any given quest, and there were plenty that you could outright screw up. If you killed an essential character, the game give you a message warning you that the game cant be finished if you continue... Thats called agency... Skyrim gives you quest markers down to the foot of where to do, holds your hands through the objectives. That is called baby sitting...

The ability to make a bad choice and suffer consequences is essential to roleplay... But you call me a troll? Because I dont want things to degrade and degrade until there is no quality left?

If you dont have the self awareness to understand how you are being abusive, not me, if other people cant tell the difference, then you are all clearly incapable of governing your own interests, arent you?

XYCat: guys, give this man a break. This guy was just looking for some videogames that have been in GOG's catalogue since the beginning and he was having a really damn hard time finding them, so you can understand where all the frustration and rage is really coming from. Using the search bar might be easy for you, and most of the people on the entire planet, but that doesn't mean it's easy for everyone, so like pls don't be a meanie ;D

Joseph_Grey: Tell you what, go on Amazon.com, search for any given thing... Sort 'lowest to highest price'

Tell me you dont end up with a two hundred page list of five cent bullshits, that have nothing to do with your search... Go on, show me how easy it is...

You mock me, for things you yourself cant do... You cant just go on Amazon and ask for 'lowest price whatever' and actually get it... You get the same unending bullshit lists that I do... Stop acting like reality doesnt apply to you...
ok dude but this post was legit hilarious and I give you an upvote for it :D

If you like Morrowind and Skyrim doesn't meet your personal standards i don't quite understand your problem in this case. Morrowind is sold on gog.com. Skyrim is not.

You are trolling because the account you are using says you joined Dec 2019, 7 years after "Good Old Games" became GOG.com only, yet you keep acting as if the site still advertised itself as "Good Old Games". Could you at least point us to where you read that "get old games here" statement? (Not that this slogan would actually contradict new games being sold here, too.)

You are also trolling because you don't react to any constructive advice or rational arguments but keep repeating your same old rant, make broad prejudiced generalizations and nonsensical statements about equality and such. Let's assume you were already around when GOG was still known under the name "Good Old Games" and let's assume they actually did ask you about your opinion then whether you'd welcome new games on the site, but for the sake of equality, they also asked all the other customers, and a majority said "yes, we would also like new DRM-free games here" (which is exactly what happened) - is their opinion equally valid or less worth than yours now? Should GOG have catered to your minority vote instead, just because you're angrier than the rest?

You are not a troll because you have your own opinion about games and want to share it, but because of the rude way you do that, dismissing any differing opinions, insulting people who are trying to help, not really looking for any solutions, not really engaging in a real discussion. Skyrim isn't even on GOG, so that's just more bait.

I think most people here would even agree with you that GOG's sorting and searching system sucks, but tbh your rant is so unfocused and irrational that it's hard to sympathize with it.

By all that is unholy lock this damn thread already....

Beaubergine: Indeed, while we've kept the GOG name, we're only formerly known as Good Old Game. =)

Also, Joseph_Grey, and obviously everyone else, please remain polite and avoid using vulgar language against other people on our forums.
Seriously, you guys are handing out bans for the slightest rule infraction. How is this guy not banned and why isn't this thread locked?

Joseph_Grey: Lol, I come to a site title 'get old games here' and the first thing i get is a list of games that are new releases...
Again, the very clear and simple fact is that GOG has not been "Good Old Games" since 2012. So you did not come to a site titled "get old games here". You came to a store that stopped being just about old games almost eight years before you joined it (judging by the listed join date).
Or, to go with your analogy, it's not an ice cream shop named "all about strawberries", but one named AAS, which also has various kinds of strawberry flavors among many others. They advertise the newest and best selling and cater to the masses and lowest common denominator because they have decided to sacrifice values on the altar of growth and profits (don't get me started), but the strawberry flavors, both those they introduced in the first few years since opening, when that was all they were focusing on, and a handful of others added since then, are still available and those interested can find them if looking through the catalog of flavors.

Heck, I've been lashing out at GOG since the "good news" in 2014, see little worthwhile left here, the problem being that it's a race to the bottom and other places are even worse (as you also point out), but accusing them of advertising as the place for old games and not having them is completely wrong, both because they haven't been advertising as the place for old games since 2012 and because they do sell hundreds of old games and actually even continue to add more even now (for example, less than a month ago, Heretic and Hexen and Planet's Edge, Wetlands and Zephyr.

And yes, those old games are easy to find, just need to sort the catalog according to "oldest first", which is release date, not date at which the title was added to catalog, that being the "addition date" option. And there's also that (now hidden but still functional) release date filter for games released before 2000 which I pointed you to.

Now I know how it feels to be too riled up and disappointed to really "process" things anymore, but please, take a deep breath and see if you can actually grasp these few facts, then see about continuing the discussion in a more balanced manner... And separately from the one about the situation on the Morrowind forums, because it really is a different business.

Oh, but about stores and old games, might also want to give Zoom Platform a glance.

This right here is what annoys me... Not as much as the outright mockery, but d*mn...

I made a comparison of two games in the same franchise. To demonstrate the degradation of quality. It has a clearly defined context for why im saying what im saying. I had a very spelled out point to make for bringing it up.

You just demonstrated for me, that you cannot comprehend the concepts that I have conveyed.

Not only that, but the fact that you went to the trouble to point out that one game is on this site and not the other, shows me that you are only thinking one layer deep. The context for what I was saying and why I was saying it blew clear over your head.

This here, the inability for people to understand what is being said, and why...

I wont repeat what I said because its all here for you to read as many times as you want.

Simply put, if you cant understand abstract concepts. If people at large, cannot understand thoughts that are more then one layer deep... There is something seriously wrong here... And it isnt that I respond poorly to peoples id*otic insulting remarks...

The measure of personhood, is in your mind... If I cant express a mildly abstract thought without people totally missing what im saying... The problem isnt on my end... It doesnt make me an Asshole if other people cant understand me...
Wait, i'm confused. Are we ranting about how GOG isn't about only "Good Old Games" anymore, or how modern games are allegedly inferior to classics?

Joseph_Grey: I made a comparison of two games in the same franchise. To demonstrate the degradation of quality.
I think most people here actually did understand that this was your point. But the problem with that is that it just demonstrates the degradation of quality in this *specific* franchise (according to you). And it has nothing to do with GOG. Your "abstract" concept comes across as "I tried something new once, it was bad, so everything else that's new must be bad, too". There are a lot of people here who actually share a dislike for handholding and microtransactions and whatnot in new games, but even they know that "new" does not automatically mean "bad" and worthy of a rant when they see it. You just seem to pick out random examples, like Battle Brothers, which is comparing apples with oranges. Battle Brothers is an indie game with a low budget, there is no evolution from old AAA games like Morrowind to "new games" like Battle Brothers, they play in completely different leagues.

No, the problem is the part about insulting other people if they can't understand you.

Someone who signed up just over a year ago thinks this place is called Good Old Games. They don't even have the excuse of 'missing the memo', it ceased being Good Old Games many years before they even turned up. Exquisite.
Seeing the topic was answered and it was clarified that we're not Good Old Games anymore, we're locking this thread for it is mostly off-topic now.

If you'd like to discuss modern game mechanics, feel free to do so in an appropriate thread to ensure clarity.

Lastly, while arguments can get heated, kindly refrain from insulting each other or being highly aggressive on our forums.
