With my other threads covering the bad aspecgts of humanity, I figured i'd balance the negativity out with some good news via a thread designed for just that: To highlight GOOD NEWS & events happening in the world at large.

This will include(but is not limited to) youtube clips/news articles/blog posts/heartwarming pictures/and the like.

Everyone is free to add what they want & to comment on other people's submissions, as long as the content adheres to board policy & either makes you feel the world is a bit better or makes you feel good about humanity/parts of it in general.
=============================================
(Slight warning/head's up: Some content might mention certain political personalities in passing or have their takes on the issues at hand[due to the article authors including such for comment/examples & the like] due to how many current events posts/youtube clips use such as examples/sources/etc. The content I post will first and foremost attempts to solely focus on the events in question and less on the politics whenever possible.)
=============================================

Now for the first post: US refuses major international call for Censorship Online-Timcast(author)

Basically in short: Several nations(after the recent NZ attack) wanted to censor a bunch of broadly defined "hate speech" online, and the US is basically like "We have something called the right to free speech and this would go against that, so we're not in/joining that initiative".

Bravo to the US for standing up for free speech over people who find speech so bad that they want it banned/legally actionable.

========================================

Now that i've added the first post, feel free to chime in with your own good happenings worldwide/good news, comment on the OP article/clip, or just add your two cents. :)
Can't show a link but in Brisbane,the Police and Traffic Control shadowed and guided a (assume) mother duck and her chicks across a very busy bridge.The video is worth watching and can be found at ABC news Australia.
But...but... "good news, everyone" means "bad news, everyone"... wha- what's going on?!

That sounds so touching. :)

Well obviously I was trying to use the professor's words in a more literal context. :)

I guess you can't lose hope when it's hopeless. You gotta hope more.

Hey all...today i'm back with two articles that made me happy/pleasantly surprised:
===================================================

Post#2 - Cafeteria Worker who was Fired for giving kid a free lunch receives massive praise/support from people online/irl

This one makes me happy as she did the kid a solid and people are showing their support by giving her donations & well wishes. Also she is sticking by her guns and not taking the rehiring offer the school offered, which shows she has principles. :)
------------------------------------------------------
Post#3 - Televangelist Pat Robertson denounces Alabama Abortion Bill....calling it too extreme

This article left me more surprised(in a good way) than happy in general, as normally Pat Robertson isn't one to ever support abortions in most cases(If only more people were willing to compromise on other things in life). This shows that maybe he's willing to compromise and he sees the problems in this law/bill.
=======================================

Well that's it for today....have a good day/night/evening everyone. :)
I can't lie to you about your chances, but you have my sympathies. XD

You still don't understand what you're dealing with, do you? The perfect organism. Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.

This thread is going to degenerate into a cesspit of politics, namecalling, etc. I pray it will be locked soon.
I can't even remember when I last heard of something I considered genuinely good news.
I'm sometimes happy when politicians whom I couldn't stand die, but I guess posting that here would be inappropriate.

On a more personal level, my soon-to-be-four-years-old son has started trying to play games on his own (he tried the Castle of Illusion remake, and cracked up because he decided just leaving Mickey to face the floods in Storm, Level 2, was great) and he is now learning addition. Smart kid.
Good news everyone, there exists one last episode of Futurama in the form of a podcast.

My favorite part is that the thread opened with the news that hate speech won't get banned, which some might say is very bad political news.

This reminds me of when I taught my younger sibling how to play their first video games and got them into the medium(and all the happy memories that followed).....I wouldn't trade any of those memories for all the money in the world.

It's nice to see replanting efforts(akin to the story of Johnny Appleseed) instead of deforestation reports....nice find. :)

============================
(As for the opening post: Some might see limiting free speech as a good thing, but I feel that losing freedoms in the name of not being called names or hearing bad ideas/opinions online/irl is a very bad tradeoff and shortsighted in general. Free speech laws were created by the US's founders to allow anyone[no matter their opinion] a place to air their grievances/opinions without fear of censorship, and imo this should never be limited[even for "good" reasons].

Also imo current events talk does not always =/have to lead to political discussion.)

Good News Post #5 - 16-Year-Old helps wheelchair bound man get home during tornado warning

To me this is very touching & heartwarming to hear about: Kind acts performed for no gain by random kind souls. The part about many not stopping to help/honking at the blind amputee in a wheelchair is saddening, but the end to the story cheered men right back up. :)
