haydenaurion: No, but I did put it back in the original packaging when I wasn't using it to try and keep dust off of it. I have a feeling that may have been part of the problem.

I got a few broken Playstation 2's a few years ago, I could repair all of them. The controllers were another story though.
People wind up the controllers after playing but because they don't (ever) unplug them the small wires inside can't unwind and will break when tension gets too much and they're hell to repair as the controllerinternals (plastic sheet with circuitry) can't be reliably soldered on.
